Well if you are in a cultural background that believes in that then you better do it.
I know it sounds crazy but some cultures are scared of planes so you need to do bizzare things in some countries to win the support of the travelling public.

More people die in car crashes everyday than in plane crashes. Its very unlikely anything will happen to your flight, whether you sarafice an animal or not. And besides, depending on where you live, animal sacrifice may be illegal. Just relax, it will be fine.
