The short answer is: once people realize they are truly free to choose whatever religion they want, or to choose NO religion at all, you'd see a mass exodus from organized religion of all kinds, and a corresponding reduction in their revenue.
As someone much wiser than myself once said: if you want to know the real reason for people's actions, FOLLOW THE MONEY; and when they insist that it's not about the money, it is ALWAYS about the money.

The following taken from Wickipedia pretty much sums up why some people are against secularism.
"Some political philosophies, such as Marxism, generally hold that any religious influence in a state or society is negative. In nations that have officially embraced such beliefs, such as the former Eastern European Communist Bloc countries, the religious institution was made subject to the secular state, in the public interest. Freedom to worship was subject to licensure and other restrictions, and the doctrine of the church was monitored to assure conformity to secular law, or even the official public philosophy. In the Western democracies, it is generally agreed that these policies contravened full freedom of religion."
Secularism in it self might be a good philosophy or a "great idea", if you will, but when taken to extreme's as in the case of Marx it's nothing but another way for the Government to become anything but Democratic.

Bombing and killing harmless human beings popping out of a Coptic Church New twelve months's provider in Egypt final evening in the call of Islam on a similar time as being "against secularism" seems hypocritical. Is it soooo non secular to placed on the suited modest Muslim pajamas, sweaters, head-coverings, pray afterwards and then take in selections for the suicide bombers households? on a similar time as they could say Islam is against secularism, secularism could be a large step up from barbarism and lawlessness of suicide bombing harmless victims.

People need a reason to live. In previous generations they found it in a close relationship with God. But our more secular society (me first---demanding personal peace and prosperity) mostly addresses trivialities and not the substance of the meaning of life, long ago abandoned the faith. This has drifted into most mainstream Protestant Denominations. If the church has lost its reason for being, what can it say to people who have lost theirs?
Meanwhile, the Muslim threat advances. They know what they believe and they want to impose it on Europe and America.

If you are a narrow minded bigot, you are uncomfortable with anyone doing it any other way.
'Secularism' is about the only hope for Mankind living in Peace - Families have always had a Golden Rule - "Don't talk about Religion at the Dinner Table"!
If each and every Religion believes that they are the 'only way' - they can't be happy till everyone else is 'converted' or dead.

No, that is unitarinism. Secularism is the principle of outlawing public displays of faith, and also regulating private expressions of faith. The USSR, China, Cuba....all are secularist states.
Considering the simple fact that our nation was founded by Christians, and the fact that we never had the pogroms of Europe, shows that your premise against Christians does not hold water.

Because religion inherently is not capable of being 'tolerant' of other faiths. Most religions require specific adherence in order for people to obtain eternal life or paradise.
So religious people feel like they have an obligation to 'save' everyone else, and secularism, in their minds, will lead people away from heaven.
