They fail to see the bigger picture.
Unfortunately it seems to be bigger than some Fundementalist seem to think.

Not Selfish, but stomach-oriented. Every lively being has the fear of food and all are ultimately striving for it where all problems would start. Hungry is the extreme weakness as well as the extreme power of a person. The hungry one do not have any problem other than food, but the one who satisfied from hunger, has innumerable problems and selfish motive is a part of the existence of this earth. The one who know it and act accordingly would never be selfish. He feel himself as if a traveller to this earth or as an administrator of the wealth for his life time, which is misunderstood as 'selfishness', but actually not.

I am not happy wiht your question as it only see the immediate vision only.
In one meaning no one is selfish but people is serving them self as offering a puja to the One sitting in them then how it is selfish when the same one is sitting in all people .
I dont see any selfishness but it is very small part of life only and don't hurt me.
As other has right to protect , I also want to protect my self from the actions of others and thus is not different of selfishness action of any other person.
I hope you are not confused now

It's because life is so short that people are selfish. They want to have it all and experience it all while they still can. If they just took a moment to see what God has in store for them after this life, they'd agree with James who said that this life is "a vapor" compared with eternity. God gives us every reason to be generous in this life. We can't take any of its riches with us and the riches waiting for us in heaven simply dwarf by comparison what we now have.

It would depend on what context you referring to. Being selfish to some is easy and to some extent exciting. The strong can exploit the weak. Being 'selfless' is an act of God. It's not easy being selfless in today's society, but somehow, sometimes we try our best to do good to our fellow human beings. Selfish behavior is secondary nature to humans. Being disciplined in the act of selflessness is probably the most difficult to maintain, but not impossible. It has become a culture.

If you want a rich person distribute all his wealth to all the poor, that is stupidity. There is only one way. You offer your services and take your reward. If you are intelligent enough, you make lot of money. If you are average you die as a retired bed-ridden person.
Whatever wealth you have. It will not be useful to your son or daughter. The permanent wealth is health and education. Nothing can help them.

Everyone is selfish.
Even when we are doing good things for other people, helping people in need, showing compassion, giving, etc. - we do it because it makes us feel good about ourselves.
Life's dirty little secret - there are no pure motives; we are all selfish.
