If you think it'll never happen, what will you think if it does?

The chromosomes of a cat and a dog (or an ape and a human) are nearly identical because they have a common ancestor. If you change the DNA of an animal in a laboratory (or through evolution) you change the species.

To the person that said you can't change the species of an animal because you'd have to change it one cell at a time *sigh*
Here's how you'd do it: You only need to change the DNA of ONE CELL... and then clone it into a full animal again. The dog wouldn't be put under anesthesia and wake up as a cat *grrrrrrrrrrrr*

"The DNA of a dog is altered in a laboratory... and the dog is changed into a cat."
The "dog/cat-thing" would most likely just die in the middle of the 'experiment'. How are you going to 'change' it - one cell at a time? The dog and cat have different gut length, shaped, and dietary intake requirement systems for a start.
Reminds me of the good old story about "Jekyll & Hyde" - he was reputed to go thru a lot of pain as his body changed from one to the other.
Real Science' would say that this is not possible - and it has NOTHING to do with evolution. If you take a Lego set and build a house, then rip it apart to make a plane, that is not 'evolution' either.
Evolution takes a long time to make a whole bunch of tiny changes to an original organism (by 'clerical errors' in the DNA being copied) - some changed organisms survive better, some don't. That's it - finito.
Some Eminent Scientists even see the Hand of God in this change.
You must be a teenager - it seems you think you know everything - you have need to learn much more real 'Hard Science'.

By conducting this sort of experiment you would be simply asserting that intelligence (and technology) is necessary for any substantial changes in DNA to occur.
Fair enough. Well, perhaps not for the dog.

You know, it's tough trying to get across to the faithful creationists some of the concepts of evolution. Questions like this just make it even tougher.

lol, you obviously dont know anything about this, you dont just change the DNA and poof! its a cat.
if it does then i will be saying if scientists can change the species of animals then you should consider believing them when they tell you about the evolution theory

But Evolutionists assert that that very thing happens outside a laboratory and "by itself" without fossil record to prove it?
Yet their belief...stands firm...
I guess it's not such a stretch, that ours, as Christians would also..we have far more evidence then they.

Ah good, you admit there is a God! After all, the DNA can't be changed without the scientist doing something to change it, now can it :)

That's got nothing to do with evolution!! and a dog will NEVER be able to turn into a cat - with our intervention or not! (p.s I'm an atheist)

Religionists have already stated their belief in these two simple statements:
1. Evolution isn't true...
2. ...but if it is, then our God did it.
As you can see, with that frame of reference, there is no point discussing it further unless you enjoy banging your head against a wall forever.

I believe in evolution, and I can't see what such an event would have to do with evolution.
I hope you don't think that evolution says that one kind of animal turns into another kind of animal. It says no such thing. In fact, that's a standard creationist strawman argument against evolution.

God rules science. There are so many scientific findings that are embarrassing evolutionists. They have to scream harder to be heard. The study of the DNA helix is just one of the many scientific reasons why evolutionists are becoming such a laughing-stock.
