James Young was an evangelical minister, and now an Atheist. He has said, "My church was teaching that other denominations were going to hell because they didn't practice and follow Jesus' teaching the correct way. The ultimate result was that I decided none of it was believable. I saw the absurdity, the false promises. It was all baloney."

Your question seems largely rhetorical, since you told us his story. I'm not sure I'd heard his name before, but he may have been one of those on YouTube that I've seen because someone put a link in their question or answer.

I've heard this before, by the way. It is surprising how often people who are in the ministry realize they are supporting something they cannot approve of. It seems especially true for the more rigid denominations, because young men entering the ministry tend to think and question, having recently come from college.

The most contradictory aspect of the Christian religion is the hell-and-damnation stuff being right beside love and forgiveness. To make it work at all, you have to believe that only God knows who is really worthy of heaven or hell. And even then, it seems there should be degrees, not just all or nothing.
