this is pissing me off that SOME ccws and irl fans and owners Cant see that with out geting back together open wheel motorsport is stuffed. look at the nascar crowds and tv figures and look at the irl and ccws, im not a nascar fan but as an australian watching this it Annoys me that the cant put there differences behind them and have a indy car world series. you nay sayers might Disagree but if you want what is best for openwheel motorsport you would agree with me. the other option is the two series keeps going for a nother ten years untill the die hard supporters even say stuff it. thats my two cents like it or not.

I agree.. I mean come on.. 19 car fields. What's with that crap? How can you truly have a race when 1/3 of the field is out within the first 20 laps. Running a few ovals wouldn't kill the CART drivers, IRL already runs them. In fact I know a few are quite good at it ( IE: Paul Tracy)

I don't think there needs to be a "world" series of open wheel racing based out of North America. F1 does that, and their fan base is diluted outside of Europe.

I do think that the IndyCar Series and CCWS need to figure out how to get back together, for the sake of having larger fields and more competitive fields. The problem is what it always has been: do you race ovals or road/street courses? Even if they came back together, they would have to figure out who would run the series, what will the car's specs be, what disciplines it would encompass, and how many races they would run. Open wheel cars are a lot more expensive than stock cars, so running much more than 25 races a season would put a strain on owners and sponsors. I think if they could figure out whether Kalkhoven or George would be in charge, the other issues would fall into place fairly quickly.

I don't think CCW is interested in going back to oval racing. Why try to compete with NASCAR? The IRL is up-front about wanting to keep their series in the US, whereas the CCW policy is "will go anywhere someone organizes a race". So the differences are irreconcilable.

The irreconcilable differences are that Tony George wants 100% control of the combined series and Kevin Kalkhoven will not give Tony 100% control. (Tony's demand for control is the primary reason for the split in the beginning)

Champ Car would run ovals if the fans attended the races. The few remaining ovals on their schedule had low attendance, so they finally gave up on them.

They are eventually going to merge whether they like it or not. One of the series is going to fold and the last one standing is going to be it. IRL has some NASCAR backing and the Indy 500, so they may have deeper pockets to stick around longer.
