So why do we see condemnation of certain things, e.g. homosexuality, all the time from the mouths of some Christians?

let he who is without sin cast the first stone

To me, it's a contradiction in the philosophy of Christianity, not just the practitioners of it. All penal systems are based on condemnation of "sin" of sorts (here, sin = breaking the law of a particular society), and yet Christianity REQUIRES a penal system so that Jesus could be arrested, sentenced, and crucified.

Know that I am not advocating anarchy. I'm merely pointing out what I see as a fundamental inconsistency.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." - Edmund Burke

If no one has the right to condemn evil, then there is no hope for the survival of our species.

I have had many Christians use the "no one but God has the right to judge people" philosophy as their excuse for concealing evidence of crimes, refusing to testify in court, and generally doing everything within their power to keep known criminals out of jail so that they can continue their crimes. That philosophy is extremely perverse.

Judging others is a fundamentally necessary part of life. Without it, criminals are free to do whatever they want unopposed. No sane person should be in favor of that.

There may be a difference in understanding of the word condemn. For example, saying homosexuality is a sin,but I'm not the one who has the authority to deal with that sin.If there was no calling anything a sin,a rapist could pull that verse out figuratively bind the mouths of people speaking out against rape.

I am a Christian and consider homosexuality a sin as the bible teaches. I DONT hate homosexuals, as the bible teaches hate the sin but love the sinner.

Any Chrsitian that does otherwise should not be considered a Chrsitian. It is not the place of man to Judge others, but, "All scripture is God breathed and suitable for Teaching, REBUKING, corecting and training" - 2 Tim 3:16.

I would hope that those Chrsitian condemners are doing things with respect and love and not as Judge and Jury.

We not only have the right, but we have the obligation to point out something that someone is doing that is againsy what God would have for us.

That is not judging, God commands that we preach to others.

By the same token, we are to point out to ourselfs and each other when we are doing something wrong.

If you don't want to hear this kind of stuff, you are definately on the wrong board.

Because they believe that if they can preach their 'faith' to others and condemn 'sin' it will make the look good in society.

If they were serious about being good Christians they would sell their houses and give the money to the poor, they would drive a small car and not a gas-guzzling SUV, they would not make big profits on the backs of others. In my opinion true Christianity died when St. Francis of Assisi died.

Please - we see condemning for everything.

I answered a question about what books I had recently bought and because they had "God" in them, people were up in arms. I AM NOT EVEN RELIGIOUS!!! One was proof that God doesn't exist, and the other 2 are books on Eastern philosophy.

Yep - Believers are the worst. Although, I must say I liked it in "the God Delusion" when it is written that educated, higher intelligence members of human kind tend not to be religious, or tend to question it. I feel happy now

Do you not get how fundies work?
They don't care about little things like what the Bible actually says as long as they can persecute people who are different.

Where did you come up with that quote?
I will condemn any act that is wrong, as truth is objective.

Ah, well, I don't believe in that "don't judge" mentality.
It's not rational.
