That should have read fell off (sorry)
Yes, I have an antique ornate wooden cross with a metal Jesus, the nails were always quite thin with large heads, anyway he fell off at last.

I don't feel right about nailing him back on, well I mean... and I can't find matching nails anyway, what to do?

Not knowing where this crucifix was manufactured, it is hard to tell. The nails could have been rusted at time of manufacter. It could be a sign, relative to you and your life, and if it is only you can find the answer. You might try a little super glue putting it back together. I believe anything with the name "super" in it would be appropriate.
