I think he was either lying or you misunderstood what he said.
There is a dry shampoo you can use on a cat, but if he was trying to make you believe the cat was taken to the dry cleaners with the family laundry, where they use chemicals to clean clothes, instead of soap and water, the cat was a stuff toy.

He is, of course, lying. Dry cleaning would be injurious to the cat. Cat's don't even like being washed, though, strangely, there are Van cats in Turkey that swim in the River Bosphorus. Perhaps the most interesting trait of the breed is its fascination with water; most cat breeds dislike being immersed in water. The unusual trait may be due to the breed's proximity to Lake Van in their native country; it may have acquired this trait due to the very hot summers and have extremely waterproof coats that make bathing them a challenge. As such, Vans have been nicknamed the "Swimming Cats" for this most unusual trait

It is not possible to dry clean a cat. All you have to do is brush it and the cat can do the rest. If you don't mind the gagging and the barfed up fur balls you do not even have to brush it.
But dry clean it? Never.
