No, it's a well documented psychosomatic disorder otherwise called uncontrolled babbling.

Speaking in tongues is a gift, it simply a way of communicating with God in a way the devil can't interfere with. You ask for it if you are a believer, God may give it to you but you already have the Holy Spirit if you believe. And the modern church is not under the influence of Satan if it's members talk in tongues! The Bible says you will know Christians by their fruits, and I've seen a lot of healings and good things happen when using the language of tongues.

I used to think this and I was taught it too. I was wrong and so was the church that taught me. The day you became a Christian you were filled with the Holy Spirit. Paul calls speaking in tongues a lesser gift. Prophecy and words of wisdom are greater than tongues.
Many great man and women of the faith don't speak in tongues and yet they see amazing things for Jesus.
Sadly speaking in tongues has been misused over the years, this does not bring Glory to God.

Speaking in tongues today is absolutely not supported in the Bible.
In the first century a gift powered by God through his holy spirit was that of speaking in tongues.
These were no gobbledy-gok sounding words, they were real languages.
This was to allow those few spirit anointed people to go abroad and declare the good news with ease.
It was a real and purposeful gift.
Those that claim it today are either , mental patients , charletons , or are using power from Satan the devil.
Satan does these sorts of things today to mislead people away from the true teachings found in the Bible.
But the fact is , there is no God backed speaking in tongues today.

This is a poor way to determine if someone has the holy Spirit. This is because lots of other religions like Hindus speak in tongues. Look for the "Fruits of the Spirit" even Jesus advocated this.

I have seen this more in hard line American Chrsitianity than anywhere else (in my personal experience). Many hard line Christians have done alot of damage to Chistianity (as has the denominational church).
I have seen whole congregations of american's speaking in tongues. Real...sadly I doubt it. Harmfull to the Christian faith...absolutely. The bible says that even when people are speaking in tongues....no more than 3 should speak at once and that if there is no one to translate it should stop.
As mentioned previously, the biblical account of talking in tongues was the ability to speak in other languages...not just make sounds with your tongue!!

What do the Scriptures say, how do you read it?
1 Corinthians 12:7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. 12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:28 And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.
29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way.
It seems to me that it says that the Holy Spirit gives different spiritual gifts to different people so that they can serve in the body of Christ by fulfilling different functions that God has planned for them to do. So the answer to your question is
"No, not everyone who has the Holy Spirit speaks in tongues just like not everyone who has the holy spirit has the gift of prophecy or teaching or any other gift. God gives the gifts that He wants people to have in order for them to be able to serve where He wants them to serve."

I think you have the Holy Spirit if you ask God to give it to you. Nothing necessarily happens on the outside. It's just a part of God living in you, and I think God gives you the gifts that he wants you to have. Speaking in tongues is quite a showy one, but it's not the only thing that can happen. If you have asked for the H.S. then he will be there working away in your heart.

Speaking many tongues is no miracle or surprise for humanity.
Holy Spirit is nothing but a firm belief in truth (God)! Every human can seek it who trust in God!
It is found in every believer of God as "Truth" but Christians take it differently -
Visualize as Ghost!

When you accept that God sent His son to die on the cross for your sins and He rose again, and when you ask Him into your life you receive the Holy Spirit. Speaking in tongues is a gift given to very few, it is not a pre-requisite for having the Holy Spirit.
