Atheism is not genocidal or violent.
Yes, Stalin was an atheist and he killed a lot of people. However, since he killed people because he was a totalitarian, paranoid asshat, not because of atheism. He didn't kill people in the name of atheism.
Whereas the Crusades were done in the name of Christianity, meaning that the blood is on Christianity's hands.
Christians murder people and atheists give to charity. Religion isn't as big a factor as people think it is.

To clarify, by 'the blood is on Christianity's hands', I don't mean that Christians are personally responsible.
I mean that the belief system is.

*sigh* Third answerer, I'm not saying charity is exclusive to atheism.
I'm just saying it's not exclusive to theism.

Whether or not Christ said murder was okay doesn't change the fact that it has been done in his name.
And I already said that Christians aren't personally responsible.

it's not a clear fact that Stalin, whose real name was Joseph Jugashvili, was an atheist. evidence is, he demonstrated significant support to Russian Orthodox Church during WW2. and sure he was a paranoid sadist - he was diagnosed so by number of psychiatrists, who were subsequently shot on his orders. so, point is Stalin is not a very good example of an atheist. you can trust me on this point for i'm a Russian, who was born in Soviet Union and still lives i this land.
Crusades and Inquisition are valid examples, though of long gone past. People, who participated in those indeed went to kill with name of Christ on their mouth. however, what goals did they pursue? their own. Christianity at that time was a way greater influence than it is now. doing what they did for Christ was just a PR move, an excuse. nowdays, Christianity is not close to that kind of influence, so it reforms, e.g. Vatican officially apologized for years of Inquisition. nowdays many christian churches aim for consolation and help for those, who need it. while sure all systems of this kind are corrupt in one way or another, any of them has enthusiasts, who really aim it and help people.
regarding atheists. there are religions you know, which are atheistic. for example Buddhism. Buddha is no god. There was a man referred as such about 2500 years ago and also any person can become a Buddha. an interesting concept.
so, it does not really matter whether particular person is a Christian, Muslim, Buddist, Agnostic, Atheist, etc. what the person does - this is what matters. you don't have to adhere a particular concept, or none of them, when you bring consolation and help to those less lucky than you. the fact a person is a Christian, or Atheist, etc. does not mean that the person can not be a paranoid sadist.
when one brings help to those in need, the religion he adheres matters not.

Actually, you're wrong. People who do things supposedly in the name of christianity are contradicting the teachings of Christ. You cannot murder in the name of Christ, or do any other kind of evil. Those things belong to the perpetrator alone. I can't do something in the name of Christ if it contradicts everything he said and taught. If I murder someone and say "I did it in the name of thefilthycommie to bring her glory", do you really believe you or your friends have anything to answer for?
As a Christian, I don't have to answer for the crusades as though blood was on my hands because of the association - those people were wrong and they perverted the truth of Christ.
Atheists also don't need to answer for the crimes of other atheists. It's a ridiculous argument, but if you want to make it, you will have to come to the conclusion that violence and evil are more naturally an outworking of Atheism than of Christianity. Fortunately, none of that matters since God does not judge us based on what other people do.

thank you so much for clearing that up, and i am glad to know that since, the Atheist have taken it upon them selves to do the charitable giving, that we Christians no longer have to.
however your attack on Christians does seem a little harsh,
"Christians murder people and atheists give to charity. Religion isn't as big a factor as people think it is"
in my memory I have never murdered anyone.
and to base you statement on the 15th century crusade, does seem to be reaching.
and of course the attack on 9/11 will also be attributed to the Christians as well.
however I have never run across a Rescue mission, that was run by an Atheist, perhaps you would be so kind to give me a link to one.

actually, the crusades were done in the name of money and greed. christianity, as all religions, was only a vehicle used for this purpose. europe was in a poor state at the time, so europeans set out toward the middle east to pursue new opportunities.
since you mention it, stahlin's form of communism applied economic principles to darwinian thought. millions were killed as a result. however, that doesn't make all atheists ruthless, moustache-wearing bastards. kinda funny to think about that possibility though. LOL.

everyone refers to the crusades not knowing they were a retaliation to Islamic provocation which the Christians eventually lost and forced to surrender. and it can still be argued that Stalin's actions where based on an atheist mentality. however i do not personally believe athiests should be labelled as killers.

Hitler was a devout Catholic. He even sang in the Vienna Boy's Choir, as a young boy.
This is not an indictment of Catholicism or religion, but then neither is Stalin an indictment of atheism.

I understand perfectly what you are saying,it is something I have never been able to understand how people will blame a whole group of people for what some in that group may say or do.

Atheism is violent. Perhaps not always in the bodily sense, but in the need to attack those who disagree.
Attacks they are "assaulting" the beliefs of others.

Glad you cleared that up - that was annoying me yesterday, that they said he did it because of atheism. He obviously did it cos he was a power mad freak, he brought shame on the name of communism.
