The reason they gave is that I don't own the car.. the car is registered to me but I don't own it can they do this? I'm in NY,

theinsurance company dropped me because I don't own the car I explained that my father bought the car for me ..I'm also on the title and I pay the insurance.. they are going to just add his name to my insurance ..Thanks for all the replies minus one..

So... you don't own the car but have accidents with it and are wondering if they can drop you?

I am not sure I understand fully but if the car is registered to you then who is the owner, the finance company? if thats the case then they are just blowing you off, a lot of insurance companies do this after an accident, if they decide your too much of a risk then well yes they can do it. but there are others that will insure you just keep looking you just may have to pay a higher premium now is all

In NY, the title, registration, and name on the insurance policy all much match exactly. How is it that you registered a car you don't own?

any insurance company can do drop u. if ur a big liability, like having a big accident caused by urself. property damage, hopspital bills, car repairs or pay off for all cars involved.

Who owns it? You cannot register a car you don't own unless it is financed and the bank "technically" owns it.
