Bows and Arrows were technological advancements. Don't you mean "just a stick and a rock"?
And if you are going to ratched it back to prehistoric times, shouldn't hunters get to kill the young fawns and pregnant does just like out forebears did?
After all, those prehistoric people hunted whatever and whenever they needed food. They didn't have seasons or limits or rules and regulations designed to stricly limit the hunt as we do today.

When you say "hunting with a rifle is unfair" you make it sound like just the act of buying a rifle makes the hunter better than the game, able to unerringly stalk and kill the animal and the animal has no chance against a hunter with a rifle. Not so. In Colorado the success rate with rifle hunters is about 20 to 30 % Meaning that for every 100 hunters with a rifle only 20 to 30 will get their deer. That hardly sounds like rifles are so unfair that the deer do not have a chance. To hunt with any weapon you first must learn to be a hunter. And unfortunately too many city hunters only go out in the woods on the opening day of hunting season. Can a rifle kill at long distances? Yes but only if the hunter takes the time to practice, know his rifle and shoot it accurately. Just owning a rifle and going into the woods does not make a hunter invincible nor does it guarentee a harvested deer.
Many times I have seen hunters with rifles and bows walk right by a deer that is bedded down in the grass and never see him. Sometimes as I watch the deer fool the hunters I think it is unfair what the deer do to a hunter.

I think it's unfair that deer get to have superior smell and hearing, speed and agility. I think it's unfair that bear get 20 razor sharp claws, weigh a thousand pounds more than me and can still chase me down and crush my skull in it's mouth. I think it's unfair that fowl can get up and fly away when I get too close. I think it's unfair that a prairie dog can dig underground and hide away.
I don't think you understand the ecological benefits of hunting. Hunting controls animal populations and keep them from starving to death or getting hit by cars killing them, and possibly the driver. I think it's safe to say that most big game hunters are modern firearm hunters. So if firearm hunting becomes illegal, that will be a lot less hunters, and a lot more deer, elk and bear overcrowding. Besides, having a rifle is hardly an advantage on animals.
When humans grow razor sharp finger nails, gain super hearing, sight and smell, are capable of lighting speed, and grow wings; then yes, hunting with a rifle is unfair.

Real hunters use a bow ? What kind of nonsense is that ?
Using your definition of a "real hunter" then you as a bow hunter are more likely to cause extended suffering of your game and are more like to loose your wounded game animal than someone hunting with a properly sighted in firearm. It's obvious that you enjoy hunting and prefer to use a bow which is fine but your OPINION as to what makes a "real hunter" is simply WRONG.
A "real hunter" wants an instantaneous kill if at all possible, something that just isn't likely to happen with a sharp pointed stick sent flying thru the animal. A "Real hunter" doesn't want to have to track his/her game for any amount of time after the shot, a strong likelihood for archery hunters.
I'm not flaming you, you are a fellow hunter and I assume you respect your prey and the hunt as much as any other conscientious hunter but you statement is offensive to those of us that hunt using firearms as well as archery tackle.

Oh very nice, it's not bad enough that all of the anti-hunting, PETA, etc. groups are against us and trying to ban hunting, and even the use of dogs, but now we have to attack each other as hunters???? Why is this, especially when we need to band together more than ever before if we hope to be able to continue our heritage of hunting.
I hunt with a bow and other weapons, but I will not take the bait here and answer this question.
Let's all stand together as hunters against those who want our sport to be banned.
After the Michael Vick thing, I heard people on talk shows saying "what's so bad about what he did, after all some people stick an arrow into animals and let them die slowly". All we need is to start fighting among ourselves to end what we all love to do.

Hunting is Hunting no matter what your choose to hunt with.* The person who uses a Bow & Arrow is no better or worse than a Hunter who chooses to use a Rifle, Revolver, Flintlock etc... I hunt with Bow & Arrow and Rifle, both are lethal in the hands of any hunter who places his kill shot effectively.* "Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privilege to do so to."We all need to respect one another and the choices we make in regards to what we choose to hunt with.* No hunter needs to Criticize, Condemn, or Complain or make themselves better than other hunters because they use this or that to harvest game.* We will be known by the tracks we leave behind.*" NO man is a failure when he has friends who Hunt." "United we stand , divided we fall."

kumbaya my lord.......kumbaya!!!!!
Did your father tell you that son? Is it because your mom wont let guns in the house? I am sorry for your loss and the unfairness in what you are dealing with.
A real hunter is not one who buys the latest gear. Or buys into what someone says about one tool or another. A real hunter is somone who actually understands what all this is about. We are not in it to kill. Most of us are capable of buying our own meat. We do this becuase it is an important part of nature, and if we are to protect our way of living then we must continue to hone the skills we own and pass them down to the next generation.
Hunting as we know it will not last very long. Enjoy it while you can in whatever form you need. Whether bow, gun, knife or camera. Remember what you do and pass it on.
We tend to spend to much time attacking each other here. What we need to do is learn from each other and pass on what little we have left to give while we have time and the natural resources left to do it.
Bowhunting starts here soon. I can't hit the broadside of a barn, but now I think I will give it a shot.

more deer die without ever being found by bad bow shots than by bad rifleshots,I suck with a bow seeing as how I have an incredibly bad shoulder and can no longer pull one back,so to be humane I use a rifle to get my meat, but I do agree that bow hunting takes more skill and stealth as most shots are under 40 yards, and human scent in the air is the biggest obstacle next to being absolutely silent.I admire bow hunters, but I will never stop using my rifle .

"real hunters" hmmm, I smell an antigun lib.
This questioner is posting this same BS several times under different pseudonyms. It's more likely this little pinhead has never picked up a Mathews Solocam let alone tried to pull it back and hold it to take the shot at anytime, save his sanctimonious little ****.
1st, irregardless of what I hunt with, I choose to hunt humanely I hunt birds with a shotgun, I hunt vermin with a .223 tack driver, and large game with a .308 or 30.06
I stalk to within 100 yards when I can to take the shoot.
That and when the day is done I can use my firearms when S__t hits the fan.

The counter argument is that bow n arrows are inhumane. Game has to bleed out since arrows have very little shocking power.
Real hunters take game as humanely as possible. Hard to beat a neck shot with a .30-06.
