ewwwwww how disgusting, I tend to pee sitting down these days it saves a lot of arguments at home about leaving the seat up it also has the added advantage that I never have to wipe down, which to my mind is the polite and hygienic thing to do if you miss. If it is your boyfriends house then maybe he should have a word with the lodger but at the very least mention it to the boyfriend and then talk to the lodger. Leaving notes is likely to be received badly far better to have a chat. If you choose to do nothing then when nothing changes you should not complain. I really think you need to bite the bullet, it need not be confrontational, be calm explain the situation and ask the lodger politely but firmly (in other words do not say would you mind lifting the seat before you pee, rather say something along the lines of I would really appreciate it if you lifted the seat, it says the same thing but the message is slightly more positive, also if he does start to lift the seat mention again, thanks I really appreciate that you have taken on board what I said it much more pleasant to go to the loo these days. I'm not suggesting you use the exact phrases, you need to couch it in appropriate language as it can come over as contrite but hopefully it should give you an idea of how to achieve peaceful resolution.

The thing is that nobody ever tells guys not to do it, also girls tend to moan about guys leaving the toilet seat up so really it is a no win situation, maybe he has been nagged about that and as someone said there are more important things.
It might just be that he isn't aware that it bothers you, presumably he is paying rent and you are a recent addition to his household, even though you call him "Your lodger" try saying "Could you lift the seat when you pee, cos I have to sit down, and it causes my bum to get wet" and probably he will comply, no one really likes conflict.

Maybe have a quiet word with the boyfriend to have a quiet word with the lodger. Man to man. Talk about hygiene etc.
Put up an amusing poster about toilet seats etc in the bathroom - though you would have to check with your boyfriend.
I know I had this problem when I lived in a hostel with 4 drunk and drugged males and no female support. They are disgusting!

Rip the toilet seat off its hinges and throw it out. Buy another one that only you can use and keep it in your room, only taking it to the bathroom when you need to use it. This may sound a bit extreme, but we all did this when we were at college. Nobody sits on the seat except you - makes sense. Hope this helps.

Confront him about the problem and if he ignores you, do what I did put a notice in the toilet and if he ignores that every time he goes to the toilet and wet the seat, ask him to clean it. He will soon get the point.

I think it is probably a waste of your time as he will have been doing it all his life and sees nothing wrong with it. If he lifted the seat up he would still annoy you because then he would leave it up.

TALK to the guy. Have you talked to him yet? What did he say? Did he raise the seat for a while and then decided to ignore it?
If he waves it off and still does it, then you need to figure out what to do. Talk to him again, have your b/f talk to him, or start leaving the seat up after you are done (I would not do the latter).

Put the cork off a wine bottle down the toilet, he will aim for that and not spray the seat...
Give it a go...

I think it's perfectly reasonable to tell him that it is unacceptable to expect someone else to clean a toilet or toilet seat after him.
