Leather is better if you are prone to allergies. Cloth tends to hold dust which encourage dust mite infestations, and other allergens. However, if you have cats, they may claw the leather which would be considered "abuse" or "neglect" on the owner's part and not covered under a warranty. There are some very nice wood-frame sofas with leather cushions made by Thomas Moser, which I wish I could afford. Personally, I prefer leather. It is easier to keep clean and looks very elegant.

All furniture frames are made from wood. Some choices offer exposed finished wood arms or backs. You first have to decide how the furniture is to be used. If you have children and it's going to be in a heavily used room, your choice of leather and fabrics will be different than if it will be in a room that is rarely used. Discuss this with your furniture sales person and they will help make the right selection.
