I couldn't agree more! the percentage of those who are real is far lesser than the fake ones (or those that are not so truthful over the internet).
But it's a natural tendency for people to be someone whom they are not when they don't necessarily have to be truthful.
and with that figure, wouldn't one be so skeptical about the internet being a good place to look for a lover?

5% real and 95% fake. Looking for someone on the internet is a waste of time. People either have something to hide or are lying about who they really are. Its a joy that they get to talk to someone and the other person might or will never find out the truth and thats what makes the people looking for dates or internet relationships feel good. Inless you live in a town with population 100 there is plenty of people in the real world out there for just look a little harder don't settle for cyber relationship.

Yea I agree with that figure, maybe its even a little bit lower ie 10% real 90% fake.
Its ridiculous.
And no I don't consider the internet a "good" place to look for a lover. I believe that you definitely can find one. But its better to met a partner through different methods.

If you're talking to someone for an extended period regularly (say about 20 hours' worth of conversation in a month), I think that person would probably be more "real". It's hard to keep lying and maintaining those lies over a longer time.
To answer your question, yes, I do think the Internet's good enough for hooking up or for making friends.
Although... I wouldn't be so quick to believe people when they tell me online (either directly or otherwise) that they're sexy or hot. If that's true, why brag about it online when you can flaunt it in real life?

Probably not. But it's a good place to meet friends - and who knows where that could lead. As for how many people are 'real.' I'd say it's probably about 50/50. No different from real life really. Not in my opinion anyway.

I don't consider the internet a good place to find a lover....and I'd have to say that maybe 5% of the people are real. If you want to find someone, meet them face to face in a public area.

A lot of guys are on the dating web sites just to mess around, it's addictive. They can date a lot of girls at the same time. But I met some really nice ones also, shame there was no chemistry. It depends what exactly you are looking for.
You should try it, good luck and be carefull.

i think 85 - 90% of the guys are fake --- i have met a few ladies and they have all be genuine --- to me it is a way to meet people that i would have never met otherwise --- may lady is about 20,000 kms away so we would never have met except for the internet and malicious "friends"

I think your way off, I'd say 1% is real while 99% are as fake as a $3.00 bill.

It's probably one of the worst places to find a meaningful relationship. Most are'nt what they claim to be and it's nothing but a big gamble.
