If there is a God, why would it HAVE to be all powerful? (be able to see into the future, know what a person is thinking, etc.)
We are so used to this supposition that many people take that if there is some sort of God, that God must automatically be omnipotent.
Why would it HAVE to have a personality? Why would it automatically have to care about anything and like some stuff but not like other things?
Do you think there could be the possibility that there could be some sort of a God (not the God of the Bible or ANY religion on earth) that created the universe, but did it in a mechanical sort of way?
This God would not necessarily even think.
Humans in this scenario would not even be part of its plan. They would just happen to be creatures that evolved through natural selection.
This God would not answer prayers and there would be no afterlife and no souls.
What I have just described is practically atheism.

Do you think some sort of thing like this could possibly exist?

I never said it was atheism. I was just saying it was step away from atheism.

I don't believe in this myself. I am actually an atheist, but I have read about people who believed in this type of thing and I wanted to hear your thoughts.

That's Deism, it's well-defined, and it is a religion on Earth.

Well, it could happen. But I don't understand the point. Is it just meant to be meaningless and futile? Or just plain old cruel?
Defining atheism is tricky, so I'll stay away from that landmine, but most religions describe a loving God who embodies all that is good. This god of yours is unthinking, mechanical, limited and will not respond to prayers nor provides an afterlife. Sounds like a lesser god to me, as in Greek or Roman theology.
On a polytheistic level, it can make sense.....technically.

I think something like that can exist. If there is a god, and it is a god of the universe it certainly isn't going to be anthropormorphic or anything we humans could really recognize. And its going to have better things to do than worry about who is gay or who believes in it and worships it enough, or who is having premarital sex, or who is using drugs and on and on.

Um, to be serious I think that's creepy and it reminds me of a book I just read (Brother Odd) where there were creepy creatures with no soul created by a crazy monk.
And to quote C.S. Lewis-"I like my pretend world better than your real world." (Sixth book in the Narnia series)
If what you say somehow happens to be true, then I'd like to believe what I believe anyways, because if it's an illusion, it's a beautiful illusion and I like it.

No I don't see any indication of such a thing but look to the tremendous minds that tower over me for such insight .
Certainly not the name calling less than childish ones that haunt the YS/RS forum just to show their ignorance .
Appreciate your pondering curiosity but I don't really see it ...

Atheists believe that the universe came about through natural means; that no entity, sentient or otherwise, was responsible for its formation.
You might be describing deism.

No, they don't have to be, but if they didn't create the universe, then something can be created more powerful then he, hence he would no longer be a God
