Oxycontin detox is accomplished similarly to other drug detoxifications. The individual is stepped down slowly off their dose of OxyContin until they no longer physically need to take it. Without this process the withdrawal symptoms from OxyContin may be so severe that OxyContin detox may seem impossible to the individual.
Withdrawal symptoms from OxyContin include: perpetually being tired, hot/cold sweats, heart palpitations, joints and muscles in constant pain, vomiting, nausea, uncontrollable coughing, diarrhea, insomnia, watery eyes excessive yawning, and depression.
OxyContin detox not only helps in easing the withdrawal symptoms experienced by the individual, it also helps in the path of OxyContin addiction recovery. Detox from OxyContin is invaluable to recovery because it helps in diminishing cravings for OxyContin as well as ridding the body of harmful toxins deposited during OxyContin use.

He could die doing it at home. HOW? He'll go through Hullucinating. He'll vomit voilantly as his system detoxes and he can have grandmal seizues. The vomiting could cause him to choke to death or he could choke on his own vomit during a seizure. He could injury himself or you during a seizure. He could also end up dehydrated and then have a heart attack.
Without medication to detox properly he could die. If you are with him, the cops could blame you for not seeking him help. So consider if you want to be liable if something goes wrong.
If it's money, he can go to a community hospital; they can admit him for rapid detox, which is 24 hours, usually. He could also call a drug abuse type hotline and they might have some good resources. Not a suicide hot line or even the ER. But it's very, very dangerous to attempt it at home. You are putting your life in danger by being alone with him while he's going through detox. He could end up hullucinating and think your are out to get him and attack you. REALLY!
This just isn't wise.

You have to commit him. that is a hardcore drug and very hard to kick. There is a pill that the doctor can give him that will effectively kill the high from the opiate and thus prevent him from going back on it. Oxycontin is just like Heroin and it need serious care. Good luck.

detoxing should be done under medical supervision, and usually this would require weaning off the med, in other words lowering the dose gradually until the med is out of your system. It could be dangerous to just cold turkey it if he has been on them for awhile. he is going to get real sick. but could have seizers and all kinds of bad things please talk him into going to the ER it is the safest
