what good is it to stll have your "parental rights"? What exactly are our "parental rights"? And if someone else legally makes all the decisions for your child how can you excersize "parental rights"?

It's not my kids, it's my cousins sister in laws kids. She didn't abuse them, but was neglectful. She is very severly bi-polar. Her "parental rights" haven't been terminated. Her parents have legal permanent guardianship though, not custody. And it was just a rhetorical question anyway. Just curious about this situation and "parental rights"

I don't think you have parental rights anymore.

Talk to your social worker.

I am not sure I can tell you exactly are parental rights . When I was moving from one state to another my daughter stayed in our old state so she could finish school, She was 11 and her aunt got limited legal guardianship of her. Meaning she could sign for her at school, take her to the doctor and what not.

I am assuming when someone has legal PERMANENT guardianship of a child the other parent no longer has parental rights at all..

If this is you, I would find out from a lawyer that drew up the paper work.. It would have had to go in front of a judge

If somebody else has legal permanent guardianship, you don't have parental rights. However, it is obviously good for the children to maintain whatever relationship possible with their mother. She lost the children because she is not able to care for them properly, at least some of the time. Presumably the legal guardian will have discretion to say when the children can spend time with their mother, and when she is not fit for this.

when the rights are still intact they can still make contact with the child and have a say in certain matters and are responsible for usually childsupport. When parental rights are taken away that means they can't have contact with the child and they have no say in anything involving the child and will never be able to get custody and are not responsible for the child.

How did someone get guardianship of your kids? You can't have parentla rights if you abused them and lost them.
