Well a lot of artists and graphic designers, instead of having a paper CV/Resume, have a website which they refer potential employers to. These sites are usually loaded with flash animation and other shiny stuff to make it look fancy.

Unfortunately, I think this is the closest thing to an animated CV you're going to see outside of Harry Potter books >.<

Hope this helped.

Actually in design and graphics it is common to have a CD resume with your art work on it. Of course that CD should also be a work of art.

Resumes should really be simple and functional. Make life hard for people and they will put your resume in the reject pile.

For non-design work you might consider various ways to creat an impression. Such as printing a full colour resume on glossy paper (make your resume look like a advertising brochure).

But animating your Word file or using a different file format might mean you don't conform the the companies policies for submission of resumes (usually in Word format).

Anything that shows creative design and flair can be helpful for related jobs, but not if you want a job as an accountant. It also gives you and your employer an extra discussion point during the interview (wow we liked the look of your resume, pretty cool). But animated means, we tried to download your file, but it didn't quite work on our computer.

Anyway, to answer the question technically. Why not create a CD to go with your CV.

Use web design tools, flash, director or another multimedia tool to create a presentation about yourself. If you want a job in sales, marketing or something that involves creativity or communication skills, it could really have a big impact on some employers, others might think you are a pretentious nob, and decide they don't want you.

and do you think respectable companies would be impressed by this?

maybe Marvel comics yes, and it is true that more and more people are starting to accept (and hire) based upon Visual/Video Resumes, (or go and look for you on youtube/myspace to determine if you're the fit. But Animated might be a bit premature as of yet.. But it's always worth a try, all anyone can ever say is "no"

Yeah..but that would mean that you're not a serious person. The simpler the CV, the better.

If you're looking for a job in animation or maybe animated web graphics or something like that, it might be a good idea.

Otherwise people will just think you're strange! They might even like it, but they won't hire you!

LMAO, I don't if it's possible but don't do it. I don't think it would make a very good impression.
