We have a company wide party for some people with gifts for the person leaving if they have been with the company for decades. For people who have only been with us a few years sometimes a coworker will take them to lunch. I will only be on my job a few years when I leave maybe 7-8 so I don't expect anything, but the women before me was there 11 years and she got a set of luggage.

Well, I don't know that an employer should do that or not, but where I work the management of the store usually gets some type of send-off whenever one of them leaves...and most of the employees choose to participate. Personally, I would rather an employer show any kind of "gratitude" in the pocketbook than with a belated "bon voyage" (not that he need do either). But that's just me ;)...

Not me. I think it's a terrible idea. Afterall, it was your choice to leave. And they did pay you I assume? Why do you expect more, just because you LEAVE??
