There's no shot, it's a liquid put on to the back of the cat's neck. There's also a spray they use that will kill fleas too (they did this for the TNR cats I brought in for sterilization). A dose of flea killer is $8 here.

well i got you beat on the number of cats i have,24 cats and 3 adult outside dogs and 4 out of 7 puppies left, and guess what no fleas.here is what i do,i go and by a good premise spray for the carpets and furniture, your vet will have this although it might be costly but the pets are worth it. then i buy the dog advantage and get a non needle suringe while at the vet,ask the vet how much of the surenge be filled for each cat,now the vet my look at you funny and say you cant use the dog advantage on cats, however you are using a much lesser dose per cat or you can just buy 8 cat doses which is very costly, with the syrenge(no needle please)start at the cats base of the tail and slowly squeeze all the way up to the cats neck, done if you put the cats on a white surface you can see the fleas commit flea suicide.with the spray you want to keep the cats out of the house for a short time, then you want to spray everything as if your treating for headlice, spray the carpet under bed.under tables, under furniture,on the furniture, move the cushins and spray,if the infestation is realy bad then you want to wet not soak the items with the mist, wash all pet bedding yours too if fleas are there,if you have piles of laundry then get it washed, anywhere you think fleas can hide.for the outside maybe get some seven dust and sprinkle it everywhere the pets go,o-yea before you treat the cats give them a bath first, the vet also has a shampoo that you can use follow lable instructions,i know the cats arnt going to like the bath part, but tell them if they want to come back inside its got to happen:(dont use sergants or hartz its bad stuff and has killed pets!anyway good luck and have fun:)

Try a topical product because with many of the topical products will actually get rid of the fleas in your house as well as on your cats. They work by you put the liquid on the cats back and within 24 hours you should have no more fleas on the cat and soon no more in your house. The product gets on their skin cells and they shed their skin cells like a human does. Fleas survive by feeding on these skin cells and since they now have the flea product on the cells it kills off the fleas. I have seen it work first hand and have heard countless numbers of stories with the same results. Just make sure that you don't put more than one product on the cat because it could be harmfull to them. Also, I have not seen any of the store bought topical products work. Some good products are frontline, advantage, and revolution. Revolution is also has heartworm prevention in addition to a flea product. I would not suggest keeping them outside after treating them because you can just keep continuing the flea problem if you don't keep up on the meds. and it is not always safe for them outside.

a shot I've never heard of; at the shelter where I volunteer they give all the intake cats with fleas a pill that kills all the fleas within an hour after ingestion...of course then we have to give the cat a bath to get all the dead fleas and icky flea poop off of the cat (most of the time, there is more flea poop on the cat then there is fleas!) I'm not sure how much this would cost although I do know that our shelter will only give this pill to the more extreme cases of flea infestation.

Never heard of a shot for cats to kill fleas.
The best way I know of to get rid of fleas is flea bomb your home and use Advantage or Frontline Plus to treat the fleas on your cats the same day.

never heard of a shot like that. there is however a product called capstar that is a pill and when given will kill any fleas that are on the cat within approx 12 hours. it is best given along with a flea product like advantage or frontline that will kill any new fleas for a month. if i remember right, the capstar costs about $3 per pill, may be a little cheaper if you buy the whole box and the frontline is about $10 per tube

It's probably $60. I'd rather treat it myself. But whatever you do, avoid them segeants brand flea collars. They cause ear infections.
You have eight? Could I have one?
