im not an atheist and i know about the bible. I also know that the bible isnt for everyone. U may have no intention of forcing ur belief, but u speak as though u want everyone to follow the same belief. Ur Christianity was never heard of back when Witchcraft, Pagan, Atheism, Buddist were around. It is hard to believe in something that was only created to turn the other religions so the Christians wouldnt have to hurt many people. We have a right to our own choices, i thank u for the friendly offer, but i decline.

Blessed be!!!!

A) Do you honestly believe people can choose what they believe?... If people have their reasons for believing what they believe, then you aren't going to change that...

B) Pascal's wager has ALWAYS been a bad argument, what if someone else's God is the right one?... I could potentially lose to any of the hundreds of other Gods that would make me suffer an eternity in an unfavorable afterlife if I do go for Christianity.

C) I really don't like giving into threats, especially when these threats are also being levied at my friends, family, and many millions of people who have improved this earth. If you're going to make Gandhi suffer forever because you're petty, I want nothing to do with you.

and D) I really see nothing desirable about heaven over hell. The way it is described in the bible sounds like a lobotomy, plain and simple, no pain? No tears? no suffering? Being "cleansed"? No thank you. I'd much rather have an afterlife in which I am challenged, even if that challenge is to drive myself to enjoy my suffering and torment.

I'll tell you what I've wasted, if I worship a non-existent god.

I've wasted time. Lots and lots of time. Time I could have spent actually going out and helping people, or meditating, or having adventures. I've wasted time, the most precious commodity I have, throwing myself at some man-made farce.

I've wasted my brain. While I could have been helping to advance humanity through science, discovery, and information, instead I've been trying to hold humanity back by advocating belief in an out-dated concept (religion). I've spread ignorance and promoted blind belief in fairy tales over education, knowledge, and pursuit of truth.

Tell you what. The chances that your god exists are so incredibly bad that it would be an exaggeration to say they are one in a googlplex.

The chances that no god exists (or at least not how religion desfines it) are so incredibly good that even after a thousand years of religion trying to trick science into thinking otherwise, there STILL isn't any probable explaination of the universe that includes a god.

So, I'll take my chances. I will spend my time in valuable ways, and promote knowledge. Sorry if that offends you.

Well I could spend a lifetime pretending to believe and be miserable, then just say if I happen to be wrong (I don't think I am), wouldn't God know it was all fake. I mean he is supposed to be all knowing and all. Could you wake up tomorrow and decide not to believe? If so then you aren't strong in your belief. I would rather live a life that is not a lie, a happy life, and be known for being a good person. You can be an outstanding or good person and be an atheist.

There's all kinds of things and gods that I could choose to believe in. The one that you have chosen is special to you, but it isn't special to anyone else.

I try to live according to the golden rule. Believing in a God wouldn't make me a better or nicer person, so how does it affect you?

If I spent my life worshiping God, and there turned out to be no God, and you ask what I have wasted?? If I have 'spent my life' doing something useless, then I think that the question answers itself.

Live and let live, eh? Have a nice day!

So, you've heard of Pascal's Wager - well done.

I'll tell you why I don't want to waste my time, money and other energies on such a ludicrous venture; it's this – it sounds like far too much like hard work to me; I'm lazy and my time is valuable to me.

You are suggesting I believe some superstitious myths that were made up by desert dwelling savages who really needed some law and order to protect their tribe.
Cool; it worked for them.
I dunno about you, but I'm occupying a bitta time and space in the 21st century - Bronze Age stuff has little relevance.

As long as I follow a couple of simple rules that have been followed all through man's history I'll be fine.
1. Do the right thing cos it's the right thing to do.
2. Don't harm anyone.
3. Smile – I made this one up – clever huh?

Now you expect me to trade my easy to remember philosophy in on your really involved rituals and dogma and gods and silly little-minded rules and regulations (eg a child showing his parents disrespect should be stoned to death) all followed up with the clincher - If you don't suck up to 'god' he'll send you to hell.

Yeah - I reckon that'd make sense to you.
It just doesn't make any sense to me.

There are many flaws in your argument, which is referred to as "Pascal's Wager." Since space is limited, here are a few sources:

http://www.rejectionofpascalswager.com/
"The world today, perhaps more than ever, is in need of our undivided, moral and rational, attention. The problems of the world, both natural and man-made are many: famine, floods, the greenhouse effect, the ozone hole and the irreversible extinction of countless species of plants and animals. The only chance the world has is for humankind to understand that this world is all we have, there is no other, no afterlife. Only we can solve the world's problems. The solutions for the problems of the world and for life in general are not to be found in Christianity. Christianity, in fact, is part of the problem.

"On both intellectual and moral grounds the only course for a person to take is the rejection of Pascal's wager."

who says you are going to go to hell if you don't believe in God. Its not evil to not believe in God. So don't try and push your beliefs on others. The bible is a dangerous thing because people like you have differerent interpretations of what jesus and co where actually saying. God forgives everyone don't forget that. Just because you don't worship a God doesn't mean your messing with your soul thats just ridiculous

well just belive in god so you can choose the lesser of two evils wont get you into heaven, if that exists because that dosnt mean that you truly belive. alson why is it that if you spent your life belive in the bible and god that when you die if its not true then at least you will be remembered as an outstanding person? that makes no sense to me, your saying that if your religous person then your golden, sorry that dosnt make someone outstanding in my book. One can belive what they want and if its diffrent then what i belive so be it but i may still think they are outstanding.

Firstly, the bible alone is open to so many interpretations. Just look at the all the denominations of the Abrahamic faith. You cannot even agree between your own self.
One would think God will firstly, take care of his flock before looking at other people.

Secondly, what do you mean outstanding people??
Gandhi wasn't a Christian, but he strove for world peace.

Again, from your little tirade, we can see that you've have already been brainswashed since young, to embrace the faith.
I cannot blame you for your closed minds, but I think religion is the number 2 cause of war, other than money.

Do your outstanding people includes those fanatics who slaughtered millions of heretics? Sure we remeber them, but do you want to count yourself among them in today's context?

Anyway, is believing Jesus for the sake of "playing safe"a right mindset. It shows your just hypocritical.
Lao Tzu or Zhuang Tzu once said " Being good for the sake of good, it not enough. One must achieve being good for one is inherently good." or something like that.
