especially a lot each pregnant female because of the fact 1942 smoked and drank in the time of her being pregnant, If it have been that decrease and dried then each infant born between then and the previous due 50's could have had a beginning illness. It wasn't until the Eighteen Eighties that it replaced into obtrusive that smoking replaced into risky to the two female and fetus, ditto alcohol. in spite of the undeniable fact that it is going too some distance to assume than one drink or one cigarette motives beginning defects. I see many women people who get disillusioned because of the fact they nevertheless smoke or that they had a drink or 2 earlier they knew they have been pregnant and that they think of they could have deformed infants. Its no longer real. Any form of drug abuse, be it alcohol or tobacco or any of the others will enhance opportunities, yet its no longer a hundred% with any of them. Its the character of unlawful drug habit that the female can no longer make reliable options, yet that doesn't advise i opt for to place her up in a being pregnant motel for 9 months so she will't get drugs or alchhol. as quickly as you advise something like for you to evaluate what the treatment could be.

Every pregnant woman knows that smoking and drinking is harmful to their unborn child. Knowingly and intentionally inflicting harm on a child is child abuse.
Do I think a woman who chooses to smoke or drink when she is pregnant should be charged with child abuse? Absolutely!

You are stepping into a very grey area. There are many questions like this.
For example,
Do you think smokers should be charged with slow suicide??
Do you think alcoholics should be charged with slow suicide??
I watched an episode of ER, where child services came to a woman to take her child because she refused to give birth doing c-section operation and that she put her child life in danger.
I don't know if this also reflects on real life or not.

yes, definitely, as long as she knows she is pregnant and is also aware of the damage smoking (or alcohol) on a fetus. at that point, she is actively making the choice to engage in an action that she knows has a good chance of permanently harming or even disabling her child. that's child abuse.
as for comparing this issue to the right to have an abortion, that's ridiculous. there is no comparison. one woman exercised her reproductive freedom by choosing not have the child and ends the pregnancy before the child even exists, and the other woman has exercised her reproductive freedom by choosing to continue her pregnancy, but then takes it a step further and chooses to abuse the fetus she has every intention of allowing to become a born human being. thats a terrible crime against her child.

Some women might smoke and drink if they do not know they are pregnant (such as in the first few weeks). However, if a woman knows that she is pregnant and engages in irresponsible behavior such as drinking and smoking, yes she should be charged with child abuse. Also, the mother should receive drug counseling, psychotherapy, and some jail time. Once released from a treatment center or jail, she should have drug testing every few weeks. If she violates her drug testing, the baby should be taken away from her.

In the first place why should they smokes or drinks at all?
Both are abusive to the body - pregnant or not; and especially a women; how unbecoming!
Beside, introducing toxics and chemicals into your body and feeding the still unborn child is outrightly stupid and totally irresponsible as an expectant mother

I agree with Rabs & chiliswoman! Yes! Absolutely a woman should be charged with child abuse if she is smoking & drinking, while pregnant. Too many children in this world are born with all kinds of serious health problems all due to what the "moms" did while pregnant. How sad that society accepts this as "normal" or even OK.

smoking and excessive use of alcohol and drugs adversely affects the viability of sperm and can cause miscarriage and birth defects. should men who use drugs and/or alcohol be prohibited from procreating? forcibly sterilized, perhaps?
PS. i'm aghast at how many people are in favor of laws created to micro manage the private lives of private citizens. you people are a bunch of frigging fascists wanting THE STATE to control everyone and everything. sheesh ... move to some Muslim country and live under Sharia law if that's the kind of society you prefer.

How can we possibly enact such laws when abortions are legal. Is there any worse form of child abuse? Its okay to end a baby's life, but don't anyone dare smoke and possibly harm a baby?

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is a real thing, so yes, drinking during pregnancy is definitely abuse.
Smoking causes low birth weight. In some cases, babies are too small at birth to survive. My own sister lost 4 out of 6 babies she gave birth to because of low birth weight and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. She is a heavy smoker.
Both are definitely abusive behaviors.
