Do you all agree that there is an unfortunate "I'm right, you're wrong" mentality here on Yahoo Answers R & S?

There's a reason that we call them "beliefs". It's because we BELIEVE something to be true, but we have to keep in mind that we aren't always going to believe the same way.

I just wish we could see a little more tolerance, and a little less self-righteousness.

Tolerance.... what a desireable concept and one that the Human race isn't known for. There is a "I'm Right, You're wrong" mentality to the whole world, have you ever sat through a discussion in a religions class? That there tells you that the reason wars are fought is that idea that someone else is wrong just because they don't share your ideals and opinions. It would be nice to see some tolerance, but even Christ didn't find it. I look forward to the day when peace will reign, and we'll see each other as all having worth, even when we don't see eye to eye.

I'm sorry, but you are totally wrong about that.

LOL Just kidding, no offense meant. It's late and I'm getting a bit whippy.

I do agree with you 100%. What I see here is basically Christians vs atheists, two extremes of the religious spectrum. Like good vs evil, with each declaring itself as the "good" and the other the "evil". In reality, neither are the ultimate truth, but each contain pieces of it.

Domination is key to most religious groups, regardless of what they may say. Think back on the atrocities of history: the Crusades, the Holocaust, the 9/11 attacks, and others. All were done in the name of some religion or another. And yet they go around preaching how they espouse love and tolerance. Don't you just love hypocrites?

You are right. ;)

The problem is when people's beleifs don't fit with the facts. For example, I gave a very long response to a question yesterday where the person had stated that illegals were "undocumented workers" that are not criminals and there is no difference between legal and illegal immigrants.

I went ballistic! His statements were not based on evidence or fact. It was his OPINION and he was wrong.

People may believe something with all their soul but if the facts prove them wrong, I don't think we are being "self-righteous" by pointing out the errors in their statement. They can believe anything they want. Just don't state things as FACT when they aren't

That's true... If you're right that doesn't mean that the other person is necessary wrong... but on Yahoo Answers R & S if your opinion is different you're wrong... there's a lot of intolerance... We have to change that mentality...

Yep, R&S actually gets boring after a while because it is always the same thing repetedly. Eventually you have answered all of the same questions and you always get the same responses:

Thumbs down and violations.

I agree...I'm right, and you're wrong.

Just kidding. But when religious beliefs come into play, you get a whole new ballgame, as we've all seen here.

Yours is one of the most reasonable posts I've seen in R&S. So many of the questions and answers are mean-spirited and provoke anger instead of provoking thought.

People are always going to be like that-- because most have friends and family assuring them that their's is the only way. It's sad.

Of course, everyone believes they are right. People don't like to be wrong and then there are those that know they are wrong but are afraid to admit it.
