Mormonism and Jehovah's Witnesses are both self-described Christians. The religions resemble each other in very superficial ways, but their theologies are markedly different.
As individuals, many Witnesses note that adherents of Mormonism have a reputation for neighborliness and godly love which is too uncommon among self-described Christians.
(John 13:34-35) I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.”
It is also true that Mormonism has managed to recognize a few of the obvious bible truths that continue to evade most of Christendom, such as recognizing that Jesus the Son is a distinct person from God the Father.
(Mark 13:32) Concerning that day or the hour nobody knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but the Father.
(John 20:17) Jesus said to her: “...For I have not yet ascended to the Father. But be on your way to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.’”
Also, it is interesting that only Jehovah's Witness and Mormonism have any real program of lay-ministry in which every adherent is encouraged to preach.
(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded
Jehovah's Witnesses work to spread the Good News about the Kingdom of God, and so that is the focus of their message; they do not work at targeting any specific religion. Of course, "Mormonism" is not a single religion, but the so-called 'Latter-day Saints' tolerance of holiday celebrations, warfare, and nationalism are among the beliefs which Jehovah's Witnesses feel are incompatible with true worship.
It seems best to allow Mormons themselves to describe the uniqueness of their beliefs regarding various post-biblical holy writings, modern-day literal prophesy, the correlation between the physical and spirit realms, and the various levels of grandeur in heaven.

Because we are the only ones with enough Bible knowledge that are capable to go out in the neighborhood and talk to people about God's word.
Take "schnab" he can give you long mostly false statements about each religion, but he would not last a full block going from door to door, because he does not have God's Holy Spirit, it's been tryed by other religions, in a short period of time they quit.
If Jehovah's Witnesses are so wrong, why can this happen?
Last year 2006, 248,327became Jehovah's Witnesses and everyone of these had to change their minds pertaining to the false teachings that they had been taught, these were people that used their own Bible, King James, etc., 28,915 were from the United States. Also 1,333,966,199 hours devoted to the public ministry, equivalent to over 150,000 years.
This is on the average of 680 new Jehovah's Witnesses every day of the year, or six '6' new Congregations each day of the year.
During the service year, 2,340 Kingdom Halls were completed around the world. This represents an average of 195 halls per month, or just over 6 per day! Since November 1999 when the construction program in lands with limited resources began, 11,700 Kingdom Halls have been built. As of right now, 40 Kingdom Halls are being build each week of the year. In many areas, once a hall is finished, meeting attendance soars and halls are soon filled to capacity. We have a little over 100,000 Congregations world wide.
As I stated above, these people use their own Bible to find the truth, here is one Truth:
"Most religions teach that the soul or spirit is some invisible part of a human that survives the death of the physical body. However, the Bible teaches a different doctrine. “The soul that is sinning, it itself will die.” Ezekiel 18:4
Jesus taught that the dead will be resurrected, an unnecessary action if humans had an immortal soul. Does your religion teach that the soul does not die? "Schnab's" religion does.

I wouldn't know how anyone would think they are the same.
Mormons go by the writing of Joesph Smith.
Jehovah's Witnesses base their teachings and their door to door work on the Bible.
They obey Jehovah God and follow in Christ's Jesus' footsteps.
Jehovah's Witnesses are all preachers and teachers, and all are under obligation to live daily by the Bible standards.
There is much more in the differences of JW's than Mormons. But the above is enough to start with.
If you would like to know more, then contact Jehovah's Witnesses under churches in the yellow pages and give them a call. Usually there is someone at the Kingdom Halls about 9 a.m. on Saturdays. Most have someone coming and going through out the day all week, but that is when there is almost for sure someone there.
I can't say for sure when the meeting times for each Kingdom Hall is, but on Saturdays, we usually have a short meeting for our field service work.

Jehovahs Witnesses don't look up to Charles T Russell like he's some sort of God or prophet; they give all their worship to God himself. What Charles T Russell did was he laid the foundation to REAL bible study (without the false doctrines like hell fire torture etc). That's why Jehovahs Witnesses used to be called Bible Students.
Jehovahs Witnesses don't follow what Charles T Russell said, they don't follow HIM, they follow the truths he revealed from the BIBLE. Jehovahs Witnesses are an advancing organization who are always looking to the bible for knowledge & guidance. What Charles T Russell found out about the bible (through research) isn't half as much as what the Jehovahs Witnesses know today. According to new truths found in the bible, the Jehovahs Witnesses re-adjust the organization to fit. The early Christian churches in the first century after Jesus' death weren't perfect, that's why the Apostle Paul went around them in person and with letters re-adjusting them.
To say that Jehovahs Witnesses are just a cult who follow Charles T Russell is totally wrong, because they do not base their faith on just what he said. Charles started the ball rolling, but essentially others carried on their zealous bible study to learn more truths. Jehovahs Witnesses take the bible as their authority, not man. Following man made doctrines is a cult, Jehovahs Witnesses do the opposite; they expose the man made doctrines (Hell, Purgatory, Trinity etc) by really studying the bible.

The Mormons are knocking on your door in order to increase the organization and really have no message for man kinds future here on the earth.
Jehovah's Witnesses are knocking on your door because they are giving every one a warning on the face of this earth that God's Kingdom Government is about to take over earths affairs. Dan 2:44. And everyone who wants to live under God's Kingdom controlled by God's Son Jesus Christ who sits now at the right hand of his father will be saved and have a chance for everlasting life on this earth. Those who refuse this invitation will be done a way with and never have a chance for ever lasting life on a Paradise earth. Neither we nor Jehovah or Jesus wants to see anyone die. So Jehovah is now using his people to warn every one before the Great Tribulation strikes. Every one will have a chance to turn around. But unfortunately there will be those so stubborn like Noah's day that they will flat out refuse God's Kingdom and so will be deserving of death. So it is out of the love that we have for people that we use our free time, gas, money, assets, material possessions, and what ever it takes to get the message across that we go door to door just as Jesus followers did. Acts 20:20
As you continue to watch the news you will begin to see the political powers pounce on all religions of the earth, when that happens that will be the start of the Great Tribulation.
Jehovah's organization is the largest in the world, with over 100 thousand congregations in over 237 lands, Islands, deserts, amazons, north and south poles, moutain regions and over 10 congregations being biult every three days. Over 7 thousand trained baptized witnesses come in every week, all getting ready for the Great Day Of God Almighty Jehovah.
Sincerely yours,
Fred M. Hunter

One thing I did not see in this entire post.
The fact that the Jehovah's Witnesses are a break-away sect from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Don't believe me......Look it up. I did the research and found the truth. Sorry I don't have the exact reference anymore but it's there. It's not something many people know.
Anyway some of the beliefs are the same. And some are different. The LDS tend to be more tolerent of scientific advances and support the efforts of the government in keeping their country (wherever in the world it is) safe. This includes warfare if necessary.

Believe it or not some even put Pagans in the same category as Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses "Cult". Don't worry the Roman Catholic church thought the same thing about the Protestants a few hundred years ago.

I think because both religions have very specific doctrines which are unique to them, and not to many other religions and that people don't bother to educate themselves about the differences between the two.

Because they both go door to door trying to drum up converts, and some people are willing to assume on fragments of information instead of doing the tiny modicum of research required to find the truth.

Because they don't take the time to find out and are satisfied with what other people tell them and their own observations. (But nope, they're not even close)
