they think dogs say jau jau (dont know if spelling is correct)? They dont sound anything like that. Its ruff ruff or woof woof. I'm not against it or racist or anything like that, i'm just wondering where they came up with it?

well all i can say, in germany or in german for a cutsie word for dog we say "wau wau" which means a little doggy dog! it's not meant to be how the dog goes but more what is it? like us saying it's a kitty! :)
so maybe that's similar?

When I was in Albania, the family I stayed with said dogs said something like... I don't remember it was really weird. We joked and said, "No, dogs say woof." But they said, no. That's not what dogs say.

But then when he demonstrated, he said "Pat! Pat!" (just an example... can't remember the exact word) in a really high voice, it did sound like a little dog yipping away.

In the book Doglopedia, there's a list of what all the words people in different cultures use for "woof." It's kind of fun to read this list and see how other cultures interpret a dog bark. Though their word for Albanian bark wasn't the same as I heard when I was in Albania.

They do say jau jau when they bark loud. Sometimes they say rau rau.
A softer bark often sounds like woof or ruff.

People have different names and sounds for many things, they know what they are talking about and that is all that matters.

Blade, the same thing was said about the Irish, Italians, Polish, Asians and etc. I find your comment offensive!!! Can you guess why??? A bit of a racist, huh?
