I have an interview with HR in a few days, and they have already sent me the application to fill out. Under the employment history there is also salary history. Should I just leave this blank, or fill it out accurately, or inflate my salary just a little bit? Some of my friends say to inflate just a little bit (everyone does it supposedly?). I know that I am a little underqualified for the position, and my salary shows it. What would you do???

If I sent you an application and you did not fill it our completely I would not interview you.

If you filled it out and later I found out that it was not factual I would terminate you for "falsification of employment application".

Dishonesty will not get you hired. And if it does, it can get you fired!

Employers are looking for HONEST people. You can make a solid impression by being honest. If they asked for a salary history give it to them. During the interview tell them you are concerned they will perceive you as under-qualified because of your salary history (they will love the honesty!). Then, tell them why you are qualified!

If they get serious about hiring you, they will likely check some of your references/job history and they will find out that you lied. Don't do it. Be honest. Your potential employer will find it refreshing!

Best wishes and good luck.

"Honesty is the best policy." If they ask, put it on there.
