i haven't gotten the job yet but i was offered it. i don't do drugs, and i only drink occassionally and just a few at night. i'm not a drunk or alcoholic by any means, but i've read a lot about urine showing alcohol traces from 10 hours to 4 days. i just don't know what to think. i drank last this monday (labor day) and haven't drank since. i plan to take the test on friday to give my body 3-4 days, but even so i think the best question is whether or not you can be denied work if your body shows you drank alcohol? it's not a driving job or a government related job. the reason i ask is because alcohol IS legal, so i don't understand why a company can say no you can't work cause you drink, when they could just as easily turn you down if you have a nose ring and then they would get sued if they actually told you that.

Unless you test over the legal limit for alcohol, it is unlikely that an employer will not hire you. Even if it shows trace amounts of alcohol it can be considered a negative test.
Drug tests are normally done to weed out chronic drug and alcohol abusers before they become employees. The screeners know that people drink recreationally away from work; your employer does as well.

I've never heard of a company doing job interview type drug tests for alcohol. That doesn't make any sense at all, are you sure you've not made a mistake?
Alcohol tests are often administered to employees after an accident occurs or something like that. But these kinds of tests only detect whether alcohol is currently within the system at the time of the test. Unless you went out and stayed out late getting really drunk the night before the test, there's no way you would still have any alcohol present in your system.
I would think they would not be allowed to refuse employment upon grounds like that, but you've got to have misread or heard something because that doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
The standard drug test given to employees is called the NIDA5 and it tests for opiates, marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP.

I have a buddy who drinks daily and smokes weed most nights. He got a great job, worked there for 4 days then the Manager advised him it was time for his UA. My buddy did the UA test and told the Manager it would come up dirty and offered to quit.
The Manager really liked him and asked to wait til they got the results back, then they had to fire him.
From my understanding, he was fired over the weed, not the alcohol.

If you are being tested for alcohol, then it may be a big factor in your qualifying based on their requirements.
However, you also said by time of the test you would have 3-4 days without alcohol. In this time, drink LOTS of WATER and cranberry juice... both will flush your system out in plenty of time.

No, they test for other things.
You can only get fired or not hired, if you show up drunk, or drink on the job. So not to worry. Alcohol runs through you body in 24 hours......If you drank too much, you might feel,
its the alcohol the next day......it's your body saying....what did you do to me....Lol
So not to worry. All is okay
Hope you get the Job!!!

The body with a normal liver will metabolize I oz. of 80 proof alcohol per hour. 1 beer = 1oz alcohol. If the employer is testing you for alcohol, you bet they can if they want deny you a job if you test positive.

Most companies don't test for alcohol, they only test for illegal drugs and prescription drugs. Alcohol is legal. as long as you don't show up drunk to work they could care less.

They are probably not testing for alcohol, rather opiates, narcotics and such; people drink...it's a known fact. As long as you are not drunk when you go in there, you should be fine.
