Whether it is legal or not depends on how you punish them. Natually , he can't beat the child, starve him or lock him in the closet. I think if the mother is around, she should do the punishing. However, if the boyfriend is expected to watch this child while she is out, he should have some way to discipline him otherwise the child will run all over him. It wouldn't be fair to expect him to stay with a child he can't control. It would be like the movie" Are we there yet?" where the kids tortured the guy and destroyed his new car. Also, fear of punishment helps keep kids out of trouble. I think the mother should discuss discipline and punishment with the boyfriend beforehand so they can be on the same page. That's the best way to do it.

As long the girlfriend has given you permission it is ok. But also it depends on what kind of punishment. Like putting them on time out thats fine but abusing the child is illegal.

If you're the man and you're thinking about punishing your girlfriend's child, watch the new Halloween movie that just came out directed by Rob Zombie. See what happens to the non-father of Michael Myers when he was a kid. Then think again about your intentions.

It's wrong. Correcting the child kindly is fine if it's ok with the mother, but PUNISHING doesn't sound good at all. Especially when you think of all those poor, innocent children who DIED at the hands of a "boyfriend". And that's just the ones we hear about.

I would never punish someone eles's child. But it would depend on how you punished........... Child abuse is not legal for anyone, but dicipline is not against the law unless you CROSS that line........ However as far as right from wrong, i would say its WRONG to punish a child that is not your own. Why not let the g/f handle her own child?

It depends on how he punishes the child. It also depends if the childs mother is ok with him stepping into that role. I believe that If the mother is ok with it, than yes he can discipline the child, just don't put your hands on them.

Depends on what type of punishment you are referring to. As far as popping them, time out, etc... yeah, why not. Its perfectly legal for anyone to as long as it doesnt cross the line as being considered child abuse or as long as the parent isnt objecting to it.

It depends on what you mean by "punish". If you mean discipline in a non-abusive way--then it's legal. IT would be best if the female agreed that it's ok for him to discipline her child first, however.

I don't know, but if you are the man punishing the gf's child he will hold a strong resentment towards you.

It's up to the girlfriend. There is no law that says he can or can't.
If this man is truly being a father to this kid and treating the kid like his own child than I see no problem with it.
