Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (English Standard Version)

Did you notice that? "Let US make man in OUR image, after OUT likeness." There is a plurality here that surprisingly had never been removed from the Bible no matter the translation. The Christian Bible - quite accidentally here - acknowledges that ALL gods are one God.

Yes the Gospel confirms that God is one and we are created in this image of God that is scripture from the first book of Moses Gen chapter two...
God formed man from the dust (flesh)
God breathed in life (spirit)
and man became a living soul. (soul)
Created in the image of God who is ONE God The Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Man is given an eternal spirit above the animals which perish with their flesh.

At Creation, the Trinity existed as the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit. The Father did all the creation, through the Word. In verse 2, The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
God then spoke everything into existence, through the Word, up to the 6th day. That is where it picks up with the verse you quoted. Incidentally, it was no accident, it was the 3 aspects of the one true, Living God. There is NO OTHER god.

John 1:3 and Colossians 1:16 explain Genesis 1:26. You can read the contexts in your own translation of the Bible. It explains this further.

"All things came into existence through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existence. What has come into existence" ~John 1:3

"because by means of him all [other] things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All [other] things have been created through him and for him." ~Colossians 1:16

Hebrew language (the original language of this passage) uses the verb tense "unity" not "multiplicity" as the terms there.

Unity is a concept of the term "Elohim" which is the general title term for God which defines his essence as "God" or "Deity".

This in NO WAY defines all "gods" as "one", rather this is the first place we see God defining himself as a plurality of essense; which is more clearly defined later as the "triune" nature of God (ie. Father, Son and Holy Spirit).

This is actually revealed in many places in the Bible, but also in the Pesach ceremony, where the "Unity" is a symbol of God's presence with the people at "Passover".

Let us is reference to the trinity Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. You see it expressed in John 1:1-15...

The Word Became Flesh
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.
3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood[a] it.

6There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.[b]

10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13children born not of natural descent,[c] nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only,[d] who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

So if you are talikng about the Bible and read the Bible as truth... He is certainly not talking about other gods. Look at it this way.. you can have care givers, step-mothers, adoptive mothers, but ONLY ONE biological mother. Same with God.

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man,
but in the end it leads to death

I have often wondered that myself along with other things In the begining there was nothing but darkness...but god is of the light...that had me wondeing but this really got me.

God creates light and separates light from darkness, and day from night, on the first day. Yet he didn't make the light producing objects (the sun and the stars) until the fourth day

yes i notice but it is God and he is referring to the God head when he says "us" the god head being God the father God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, which all make up the trinity, which means three in one.

so at no time does "us" refer to any other god or all gods being one.

Hope this gives you a better understanding of the scripture!!!
continue reading the bible you will be amazed the things you will learn about God- for one thing you will learn that His name is Jealous, meaning that He would have no god before Him.

God The Father, Jesus his Son, and the Holy Spirit are all part of the same true 1 God. No the Bible does not say that all Gods are one. It does say that I am a jealous God and will have no god before me. Notice the big GOD and the little god. Big GOD is the true one and the little god is everything put before Him.
