Jesus answered a group of Jews and said, "Is it not written in your law, 'I said, ye are gods'?" (John 10:34)

There are many people who believe this passage states that man can become GODS.
(5 PERCENTERS, MORMONS, and other people)

my question is, have these groups/people twisted the meaning of this passage(like many others) from its original REAL meaning in the bible?

Read this before anything:

By "real meaning" are you referring to the original Hebrew text?

Celestial marriage?? Must they ALL to be Gods?? Bruce McConkie declared, "Celestial marriage is the gate to an exaltation in the highest heaven within the celestial world." Would he not according to this belief have had to be married to be a GOD at that time too?? Unless Mormon temples exist in "pre-existence,"accorsing to this belief, how could Jesus be ranked as a God there? Joseph Fielding Smith, the tenth LDS Prophet, also said, "Mortality is the testing or proving ground for exaltation to find out who among the children of God are worthy to become Gods" (D. of S. Vol. I, p. 69). If Jesus made it to Godhood without meeting the LDS requirements of mortality, temple rites and so on, what's the deal?? Sorry, But I can't believe I am typing this. Kerry, What are you talking about? Christ suffered in pain just as man would. His body was (as a) man's. Period.

Im sure that my opinion isnt cared about.

But you forgot to blame the filthy dirty heathens and we feel rejected. So in the name of all the dirty filthy pagans and heathens out there I have been elected to specifically respond to your question. and you forgot to call us satan worshippers.... becuse we all know " I worship*insert any religeon that dosent originate in slavery/oppression/or other such adjectives*" is really slang for "I woship satan and eat babies".

You know, what a person belives about there faith... Doesnt concern you. If they are wrong they are wrong. Most non christian groups would welcome you to there versions of heaven when you died and it turned out they were right. They are ging to rake your A@@ over the coals for being intollerant with such quirks as "Im so sorry and repentful for seeing a women in clothes that arnt a giant blanket that smoothers all of her features. Im using sarcasam and the extreme example to make my point.

You have no PROOF that what you belive and feel is real. Neither do i neither do the mormons. No one has undeniable proof.... or much of any for that matter. Thats the very concept of Divine. Beyond human understanding. Interpreting gods word and saying you are correct, isnt just blasphemey, its a mark against your religeon. Its a lie, you dont understand gods word. All you can do is do your best to follow it as it makes sense to you. Oh, and god gave you your 6 senses.... use them (the 6th sense is intelligience and reasoning and logic and such things like morales..... based on more the a book you cant truly understand.

So chill.

And Asatru officially belives that the gods areHuman, just that they have reached a level of greatness beyond most of humanity.

Peace. Thats a heathen sign .

How can plain and simple words like this be twisted, unless it is to deny what Jesus quoted. Not only did he quote Psalms, but He backed it up by saying God does not break His promises.

Heavenly Father will always be my God. As His child I know He wants my happiness.

You are greatly mistaken, we do not use that scripture for the bases of our believe.

I personally like this one:

17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
(New Testament | John 20:17)

This clearly stated our relationship with God. We are God's Children, and God's descendant. What is wrong to believe that we can become like our Heavenly Father? Didn't Christ taught that:

48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
(New Testament | Matthew 5:48)

How can we be perfect, if we do not become like God?

First of all the Mormon belief that we can become gods is not based on that scripture. It is based on Revelation from god, We are one of the few religions that takes the bible that literally. You should think about this scripture also. Matthew 5:48 " be ye therefor perfect, even as your father in heaven is perfect" If he is perfect and our goal on this earth is to be like him then why can we not become gods. Also think about this how did god become god? Its called eternal progression. Do you think you will just go to heaven and sit there forever and ever and ever....... there has to be a purpose.

Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; eirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Galatians 4: 7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

I don't like the reference, it could be talking about judges but it can equally be talking about people that judge. (psalms 82).

in John 10:33 they say to him, thou being a man, makest thyself God, then Jesus responds, .....ye are gods.it doesn't refer to judges here, but seems to be speaking in general I would also have to agree with Erica that gave the scripture matt 5:48 and her explanation.

Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

we are joint heirs with Christ, Christ says that he and the Father are one, in john 17 versus 11 and 21 it says that we can be one with Christ and God, so if we are joint heirs then we can inherit anything that God has, that is what the scriptures say.

I have been a Mormon (inon believing but active) for 26 years. I'm not in the inner circle of friends, I don't socialize with the priesthood or home teach any more but it seems everyone has been less vocal lately, Like someone put out the word to act nice until the election.

Missionaries are even low key, They want to make the Church look good and avoid arguments, I noticed on Yahoo that nobody is taking the bait when people who don't understanf the LDS church make improper comments too.

So let me clear a few things up.

The book of Mormon makes no sense, it has been changed over 1000 times since it was written, Wavy Gravy from Woodstock (Hugh Romney grew up in a polygamous compound and is related to Brother Mitt) Mormons have a political agenda that they discuss in their temple rituals. I have them memorized. They are not mainstrem Christians thats why they do their secret rituals bhind 20 foot gates high wall and with guards at the doors.

Read the PROCLAMATION ON THE SEED OF CAIN

For a laugh that is educational look up THE SALAMANDER SOCIETY and if you get a chance watch the SOUTH PARK EPISOD "THE MORMONS" A COMEDY BASED ON THE TRUE NATURE OF MORMONISM.

I keep my membership because my job depends on it and I retire in 2 years.

It all started when the Serpent tempted Eve to become godlike. And gee, look at all the crappy material things we've learned to create. Things that pollute the earth which God so Loves.

"Amen" on that one brother!
