Fundamentalism, in all religions, is based on fear and enforcing conformity. (Yes, Ms. Lady he said fundies not christians... Muslim fundies - specifically the Tailiban - destroyed the buddhist statues of Bamiyan (more than 2000 years old) and many others as well. )
Fundies fear changes in scripture, understanding, knowledge, behavior - and so impose conformity as an attack and defense of their fears. Fundies fear God doesn't love them BETTER then God loves others, and so have to damn others who don't conform. Fundies fear all their sacrifices are pointless and so usually condemn any questioning of their fundamentalism. Fundamentalists hate, and the God they make for themselves is in their own image. Fundies then define their fear and hatred of others as love, of God, or of God and others.

The destruction of centuries old artifacts is so stupid and unnecessary! These items should be given to museums or something to preserve the culture of the people! Although I shouldn't be surprised...this has been happening for centuries --as the Christian religion marches across a nation, symbols of other beliefs are always destroyed. The Roman Catholic Church did it in their early days. Some things never change!

'Fundies' as you call them, are narrow-minded, fearful and dangerous. The Taliban did the same to their country's heritage. Anything that does not fit in with their view of the world must be destroyed.
As a Roman Catholic, we were taught to have respect and tolerance for others and their views. However, we do have our own nasty history, I don't even have to get into that here.
Hopefully, more rational minds in these groups can bring them out of their insanity.

We got them in the US too. Fortunately, not all Christians are superstitious idiots. Some of us can appreciate art and history as just that. I guess fundamentalists are so weak in their faith that they can't stand historical art.

capekicks, you only pick on "fundies" because you know we are taught to love our enemies, and to pray for those who use us wrongfully. I love you and I pray for you despite your hate for me. Go pick on a few muslims and see how long that will last.
They like to pick back.
What is worse, burning a few false gods or the cutting off of peoples heads who don't agree with you?

because they want to eraticate all examples of other religions. History has taught us the quickest way to destroy a whole people is to distroy their belief structure then fill it with there own. doesn't work, but stupid people keep trying.

It is unfortunate people will destroy something simply because they see it as a threat to their religious values.
particularly if its a historical inanimate object.
