They may get to an even keel, even off, after a while. it's a delicate balance they're trying to achieve, it may be something to discuss w/your dr.

or to switch, (which is hard to do,once they've found one that does the trick).

Hang in there, i cant advise to drink coffee & stuff cause if you're like me, you gotta be careful w/that too.

get a funny movie? or something that keeps your mind working.

& hey, it's better to be sleepy than to have insomnia.

chin-up, okay?

Did you just start taking them?

If so, sometimes there's just an adjustment period, where your body has to get used to the meds. Every time I start a new one, I get incredibly sleepy for the first few days. In that case, you just need to give your body time to get used to the meds, and often the worst of the drowsiness will dissipate.

If not, then you may be on too high a dose or simply on a med that is just not going to work for you due to the side effect of getting sleepy. If that's the cas, ask your doctor if you can try a lower dose, or try a different med.

Let your psychiatrist know the medications are making you drowsy. See if the time at which you take them can be changed. Stand up when you feel sleepy. Wash your face with cold water. Work some mini-naps into your day. Exercise. Thank God there's current research occurring into bipolar meds, goal to find things without these side effects.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist. You may be able to change the time of day you take your meds and that will prevent you from being tired when you don't want to be. If the meds last 24 hours, take your meds at night just before you go to sleep. But, I would not change anything without first going to the experts, doctor or pharmacist. Call the drug store now. Good Luck.

Starbucks!

It takes a few weeks for the sedation to wear off. Changing the time you take it can help some times. If that didn't happen or help, talk to your pdoc about changing something. If that's not an option, talk to her/him about adding something on. Of course, eat right, exercise, etc.

You'll get better answers at this website's talk board. It also has good info on the meds, PI sheet links, etc included.

There are specific meds that bipolars take to counteract the drowsy and sedating effects of medication.

Ask your doctor if you can try one of them. They help very much.

Some are: provigil, adderall, ritalin, and I'm sure there are plenty more.
