If you are talking about a dent in the side, it is put there when the bottle is blown (made), because there are also seams from the mold. A few minutes later, the bottle is painted with a silk screen (actually a metal screen) method and by using the dent to line up, it is guaranteed that the label will not be screened on with the seam running through it.
