Good Morning Kelly....I live in Illinois also and I was adopted when I was 4 weeks old. When I was old enough to try to search for my biological parents I had a very hard time since my adoption was closed and sealed. My adoptive parents weren't too happy that I was searching for my biological parents. I gave up for about 10 yrs since I was at a loss trying to find them. I tried again with no luck, when your records are sealed they are sealed unless you have the money to hire an attorney. And then the judge may or may not unseal the documents. In 1992 my grandmother had passed away and she told me my mothers first name. So then I asked my adoptive parents what my mothers last name was and fortunately they told me. I searched everywhere for my mother and ended up calling the cemetery. She had died in 1982 and was buried in the local cemetery. I had come to find out that I had 2 other brothers and two older sisters that lived in the immediate area. I would ask your adoptive parents first to see how much they know. When an adoption has taken place the adoptive parents I hate to say, know more than what they are telling. I was adopted in 1955 so if you were adopted in 1966 there is a good chance that either your parents know who your parents were or know a little more than what they are telling you, the hospital keeps records and also the adoption agency. If you can't get anywhere that way, try calling the county court office. Illinois has made changes for children that have been adopted and want to find their biological parents. Now I had called their office here where I live and what you need to do is file a petition to open your records. You may or may not need an attorney for this. I will need one since my records are sealed but you may not need one. I'm still searching for my father, I have no clue on who he was or is so I wish you all the luck in the world. Take care my friend and I hope you find yours parents. God Bless.

You can go the the Illinois Adoption Registry to learn more: http://www.idph.state.il.us/vitalrecords/vital/adoptbroch.htm.
Of course getting your birth cert is a good idea but you won't be able to get your original one with your natural parents. Your date of birth 17 May 1966 (well that's you adopted date of birth). It May not necessarily be your original. It reads as though you adoption wasn't in super secrecy, and that your Father was involved in the process.
The first thing you should do is fill out the Illinois Adoption Registry and see if your birth parent(s) are looking for you.
That's really the best way to start.

www.vitalchek.com/agency_locator.asp?providerid=6632 is a link on the Vital Records page of Cook County, Illinois :
Birth Long*-- Illinois Dept. Of Public Health
3-5 business days/UPS Air/$16.00
(estimated days until shipped/shipping method/cost) Document Fee $15.00
Shipping Fee $16.00
VitalChek Processing fee-$8.50
Total $39.50
The order form is at www.vitalchek.com/order_form.aspx?pxml=gBirth&pxsl=Birth. It asks for your name, certificate holder's name, your relationship to cert. holder, gender, if he/she is still living, and both parents' names on certificate.
I have a list of the Adoption Agencies in Illinois, and will send them to you--hopefully. Since your profile didn't allow email, you can find an A-Z listing at www.adoptionservices.org/adoption/adoption_agencies_illinois.htm .
If all else fails, contact the Illinois office of Birth Right. It's for parents giving up their children for adoption and who may leave their personal information in case the child wants to contact them when they are 18.

Now that you are an adult you can apply to the department of vital statistics for a copy of your birth certificate. It should show your mother's full name and your father's full name, even if they weren't married.
Next suggestion is to go to DesPlaines, Illinois, and do some research. Get a copy of the phone book for 1966 and see if you can find any Kelly's in it - and start tracking them down.
Hope this helps.

You don't mention your adoptive parents, but try asking them. If that's not possible, ask other family members for the possible whereabouts of your adoption papers. If you can get ahold of them, that's a WONDERFUL start. You can then contact the exact agency that did the adoption and get ahold of your birth parents records. I wish you the best of luck in your search. My mother was adopted and is, at the age of 53, trying to find out what her birth name was. It was changed when she was adopted.

My mother does geonology and frequently visits county health departments. Birth, death and marriage records are all public domain. I would start there.
Good Luck!

hi, maybe you can ask the attendand there in the hospital or the doctor and nurses if they can still remember who brought your mother there in their hospital. and search for the name that was registered there in the hospital for you to have a lead of your mother if you can get a name, for you to search for her relatives who can direct you to them., or maybe you will first find your dad so he can direct you to your mother.
actually it would be so hard for you have to give time, effort and sometimes u can have hurtaches . lots of it all.
you can also hire a professional one if you can. goodluck
