I got a hi point carbine in winter of 2006. in 2007 (still winter) i got some rounds for it. 3 to 4 months after that the weather got good enough to go out and fire it. me and some friends went out and fired it. 2 rounds out of this 50 round box i got jammend. turns out the friends i was with who are more knolwgable than me told me the rounds i bought were reloads. so i got home took the slugs out and burned the gun powder. but i still have the primers to worry about.

chamber them, point the thing at the ground, and pull the trigger. no more primer.

easy enough?

scroll down about halfway down the page.

anyone that says oil/wd-40 etc reliably deactivates primers is, yet again, completely wrong. ALL reload primers sold in the US since about 1985 are/have been varnished. anyone that calls himself a reloader would know that.

there is ONLY ONE method suggested by ALL of the reloading manuals that is safe and 100% successful and that is to chamber the primed brass in the weapon, point the barrel in a safe direction, and pull the trigger. again, anyone that calls himself a reloader would know that.

Pour a little gun cleaning solvent or light oil into the headless rounds. It will neutralize the primers and make them 100% safe. A bit of overkill, but it works every time!

Burn them too without the power and slugs they're pretty much worthless. Do it in a safe area don't want the sparks to start a wildfire.

A drop of oil will render primers inert.

A spray of WD-40 usually kills primers...

JD's right about the oil. Since there's no hurry, you could even wait and have this coincide with the next oil change in your car, killing two birds with one stone.
