I think beating up your boss is a good option if you don't mind prison life. Otherwise just keep trying, the more you look the more likely you will be to find that position where someone is looking for your skills. Good luck and I am sorry about you losing your job.

It sounds like you lost your job because you didn't keep up with the latest technology. The reason you can't get a new job is the same reason you lost your old job.
You are also overly aggressive and want to take your problems out on other people rather than actually solving them, meaning you don't fit into the team work environment that suits modern software engineering.
In job interviews you sound bitter and unfriendly, so that employers are reluctant to hire you.
You also failed to invest your high salary, so that you are not able to retire early.
Yes, beat up your old boss. Go to jail where you get 3 meals a day and can have showers with big hairy men. Good solution.
Stop whinning, happiness is hard work. But security guard job means you can mean to young punks and your boss will be happy. So God has put your on the path to your fullfilment. So follow it dude.

So if you do that maybe you can get that job making licence plates and the nice orange jump suit. Man i can relate to having a bad boss that pushed me out at 52 with two kids having to go to college and a wife recovering from a serious illness. If you don't have an age descrimination type suit that is viable - you have to turn the page. You are being forced into having a second career. Focus on trying to make that work. Can you teach or fix computers - if so maybe you can put an ad in the paper and get some cash or teach a course in it. Don't make things worse and don't hold on to the bitterness it will ruin you and your existing relationships. Good luck.

No. Go elsewhere. Visit public library reference desk; ask to see the book containing foreign embassy addresses at nation capital. Write snail mail address of each embassy in country you'd like to earn a salary. You decide. Send form letter asking for list of every USA based firm mailing address presently working inside country of the embassy. When snail mail addresse's drop into your mailbox start posting another form letter asking if new hires are being accepted. If you acquire employment from firm based in USA the labor law protections apply including one that requires all new bosses
to pay your passage back to the nearest of lower 48 states
should you quit or otherwise terminate employment. Lots of
good perks. You should delay ex-boss ear twistin' until this overseas employment option is fully explored. Consider mailing ex-boss a little thingy from the Congo or Yemen
or photo of you winking inside a Moulmein tea house.

You are a better person than I. I wanted to kill my ex boss.
It is the age thing. He can hire two kids out of college & pay them what he paid you. Two people for the price of one. He also gets new, fresh ideas & lots of ruh, ruh type guys on the job.
At 56 you will have a rough time getting another job in the computer field unless you can find a very small company.
Age goes against us. You just have to accept it & go on. Change is good. Change is especially good when we have no control over it. Things will work out. Go with the flow & don't get upset.
EDIT NOTE: IF you still decide to beat him up, please wear a mask so he doesn't know it's you.

Silly question, silly write up and a defeatist attitude will keep you unemployed for a long long time. "But, I cannot get a new job in my field." You CAN get a job in your same field, making good money. You need to look around, everywhere, anywhere, right now, and in perosn, not just on the internet. Take control and get motivated. Ask for help, most will help you any day for free. You are being your biggest roadblock, not your potential new employers.
Your friends and family want to see you employed and happy, start there.
Good luck!

You don't state why you got fired. Could it be that you are hostile and hard to get along with? Most people don't automatically consider beating someone up when something like this happens, so that is a tell about your personality. I also don't think an assault record will help you get a good job. So, pick yourself up and plan to meet with someone that can offer you some career guidance. Good luck to you.

Dont beat him up, yes it sucks that he fired you, and yes it sucks that you wont have that great paycheck anymore, but money isnt THAT important, and if you beat him up itll feel great while your doing it and maybe even a few hours after, but at the end of they day you still need a new job.

Sure, just make sure you land a job first. That way, the assault charge won't affect your chances of getting hired.
By the way...you might want to check into an overseas job in Iraq. Just a thought.

As an employee in America you should know that only employee rs are to legally empowered to beat up employees, not the other way around.
You sound like you have a good strong background. Try being a consultant. see www.sologig. com to get started.
