Bad enough Brian France implemented the so call Chase where drivers that had/have absolutely no chance at the championship are allowed to. The Chase format should allow only the drivers that have a legit chance to vie for the championship, not those mathematically eliminated prior to the Chase.

At first the Chase format was drivers within 400 points, then it was changed to allow more drivers into the Chase and it might happen again, allowing even more drivers into the Chase?

Imo, the entire Chase idea is a joke and it takes away the true meaning to being consistent the 'entire' season and "winning" the Championship based on the "entire" season's performance.

Imo, the best format was the format prior to the Chase format. At least it was a format that allowed the actual winner of the Championship to be just that, the winner and not a driver who didn't 'earn' the right to the Championship.

Of course not. They survived just fine when he missed it before. Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart both missed it too.

If they are making changes get rid of the chase or at least cut back to 10 drivers and none of that bonus point stuff they added this year where Johnson is like 5th in the points but could be the leader when the chase starts. It seems the tweaks get dumber every time they try something new.

If they are gonna continue to add positions to the chase ... ie 10 before now 12, then they may as well get rid of the chase completely and go back to the old points system. It makes no sense to make it so that everyone is in the chase and just setting the points for the last 10 races.

This Chase situation has gotten out of hand...., just go with this, if you are putting importance on wins, then how about every driver that win a race qualifies for the chase, of course here are the rules

The driver must had made every race and been in the top 20 in points.

the driver will be seed but the points position, separated buy 5 points down each driver with the last driver starting with 5000 points

for each win a driver receives 10 additional points

Defending Champion receives automatic bid to chase at long as he stays within top 35 in points and starts every race

Its obvious that the 12 cars in the chase was so they didnt have a double knockout of 2 hugs drivers in the chase, thats for sure.

The chase isnt all that bad an idea, and a one of the new ideas was ok too (bonus points for wins at the start of the chase), but they should of kept it at 10, and more points if your up top, to make it more exclusive.

Guarentee you if you get 2 of NASCAR's big guns missing the chase though under the newer format, dont be suprised if NASCAR decides to make it Top 15

lol mandatory? then all drivers should be in the chase. Why just limit it to JR? He had a not so good year with the engine failures but so did lots of other guys. If he doesn't make it then there is always next year.

It would not surprise me. Don't get me wrong, I like Dale Jr. but the rules should not be bent for him. He did not make the chase in 05 and the world did not come to an end.

The new rules in NASCAR will start in 2008. The first 12 drivers plus Dale Jr. no matter where he is in the standings. Also Dale Jr, wins the chase even if he isn't there to race. All the red nation love the new rules.
