On the one hand, I'm not sad at all to see anything that has to do with religion going away forever (even though in this case it's just being replaced by another fairy tale).

But on the other hand, those are historical artifacts. Whether or not their religion was true or false is irrelevant in this context. What matters is that they are a part of human history.

I think it's sad that he's so set in his new dogma that he has to destroy his past in order to accept his future.

I totally agree with the two answers before me. You do not have to destroy the past to enjoy the future. Look at the Civil War battlefields that were involved in the killing of thousands of Americans, which we have memorialized. Who was it that said" those who do not remember history are destined to repeat it." I try not to dwell in my thoughts about my life before Christ, but it helps remind me of how far I have come.

That's a shame. There is nothing "sinful" about pride in ones heritage.
But you know how the evangelical fundies can be. Their god is a jealous god.
