Absinthe is legal to privately posses, and privately consume in the US. So I assume you're speaking of legality of production and sale and the best reason to legalize production and sale is of course that it would be cheaper and honestly people should be able to do what they want in thier free time , even if it endangers them, so long as it does not endanger anyone else. Absinth(no e) from the Czech Republic is widely sold in Mexico and contains no wormwood. Spring breakers buy it in the local liquor stores, looking for a glimpse of the Green Fairy...no hallucinations, sorry. Should be legalized in the US, no better or worse than other nasty tasting liqueurs.

I do not live in the USA but personally I do not believe it should be legalized anywhere. I live in Canada and work in a government run liqour store and we do have absinthe for sale. One of our workers tried it when we first got it.......HE ALMOST DIED. The stuff is dangerous. He was also a resposible drinker and there are alot of people out there that want to try it just to see what it would do. My friend had a few drinks and past out... he was laying on his arm....when he finally came too his arm was purple from the lack of blood flow. He lost his hand but could have died if he had not come to.

It would be very difficult and hypocritical to allow the legalization of true Absinthe in the US. The reason being is that Absinthe contains Wormwood. This substance is illegal to grow, porduce, posess or distribute in any form. If can be a dangerous, addictive and deady drug. Now I know that the amount used in Absinthe is considered safe but I can't see the US rewriting the law to ban Wormwood except in Absinthe. That would be somewhat akin to writing a law saying it is illegal to shoot your neighbor except on Tuesdays. Either something is illegal or its not.
