I'm interested only in rational answers and they must be civil and informative. I usually pick the BA after extending the A-period as long as I can and I try to judge the A's fairly for BA. sidenote: I'm not an atheist and I am not anti-atheist either.

The focus is on whether or not ateists are skeptics and not about their nonbelief or disbelief in a God. Pls stay on track an avoid straying or digressing. thx

Oh yeah, U=You, a necessary texting trick to fit the Q 9in the Q- box(Q is short for Question and Q-box is short for Question box which limits the Q to 110 characters including spaces.)

It would help all if U defined the basic tenet of a *skeptic. (hint: re knowledge and the truth or falsity of stmts)

Asterisk* indicates a net-searchable word

All the answers except the last were interesting and made me think of things I had not thought of when I asked the Q. Still I must pick the BA that answers the Q in my opinion. BTW I agree all labels are limiting but the idea was to get at the stereotypic thinking behind the use of the terms.

I think a skeptic is a person that asks questions, has doubts about what he/she has been told and would like more proof before he/she makes a decision. That person would be an agnostic, as far as religion goes.
However, a true atheist already knows the truth, has already made up his/her mind, is a true non-believer in a god (or gods) or religions, and is therefore not in the least skeptical about his/her beliefs.
Of course, this is just my opinion.

The term "atheist" means one who "doesn't do something" He doesn't believe in God.

This says nothing else about that person, so it is a very limited characterization.

A "Skeptic" on the other hand, does "do something," he is skeptical, he doubts.

An "atheist" may or may not be a skeptic.

As a side note: I personally do not believe in any God myths, yet I do not like and reject being called an Atheist.

There are a ton of things to believe or not believe in in this world, and I don't want to get saddled with a label every time I don't subscribe to one of them.

As a person who would be considered an Atheist; I would say that I am a skeptic. Because I need proof or plausible proof to believe in something. For someone to tell me that I should just believe is silly or that the bible has always been accurate is also silly.

nicely, i might decide for to take a stab at answering your question because of the fact it is making me think of, even although i'm no longer truly an atheist. i'm no expert on any form of regulation so that's purely my opinion. enable's use stealing because of the fact the crime. Why is theft a criminal offense interior the 1st place? because of the fact human beings do in comparison to having their issues taken faraway from them. contained while it comes to a save, they lose funds. Having your stuff stolen from you, tremendously in case you worked tense to very own it, will make you indignant. while somebody is indignant or vengeful, greater crimes take place alongside with theft or homicide to purpose and precise the incorrect, sometimes to harmless human beings. it could become a vicious circle and we gained't truly build a society off hostility in direction of one yet another. i assume what i'm asserting is that there are effects and chains of damaging reactions that take place while we dedicate a criminal offense like stealing. With that for the time of suggestions, if an action has no effect and no danger to get caught, for in spite of reason, then is it a criminal offense in any respect? Say the action is a criminal offense and has effects yet won't impact me today in any way. i do no longer think of i might dedicate the crime because of the fact i be attentive to that there could nonetheless be a team reaction, which could lead directly to a criminal offense being committed against me, or somebody i be attentive to, 7 steps down the line. How am i able to stay in a society that i will't have confidence? Why could others? If all of us asked those questions, we does no longer have a society in any respect. I comprehend that via the time i myself submit this reaction it's going to be long after the reality yet i wish you nonetheless study it. large question via the way.

Just some. Some are ignorant and some know completely what they're talking about. But isn't that the same for every religous/non-religous groups. Aren't there skeptics and ignorant people and knowledgable people in all of them?

Explain all this BA, A-period stuff so I can give a logical answer. I'm skeptical as to the sound reasoning behind this question.
