so i have an idea for a tattoo, two actually. i want a tattoo that will start on the bottom of my foot on the inner side, come up and around the back of my ankle, then onto the top of my foot and end there on the top of my foot. then a mirror image, sort of, on the other foot. (i would like to get a dragon on my right foot erupting from water and a phynix on my left foot erupting from fire in the above mentioned location. i also want it to look as if the two are in battle when i place my feet close together)

i am just looking for feedback on this, preferable from tattoo artists who have experience with tattooing feet.

is this a good idea? should i have it start a little higher, maybe the side of my foot instead of the bottom? would it be ok to have the back of my ankle tattooed? things to worry about in the artist that is going to be doing this? should i look for example of tattoos s/he has done on people’s feet?

i am also an active hiker, still a good idea?

THANKS!

many artists will not tattoo the bottom of your feet because they just don't stay. i have the tops of both of my feet tattooed and i love them. you should know that you can not wear shoes or socks for two weeks following your tattoo so you should make arrangements that will allow you to wear flip flops. that means no hiking!!!! foot tattoos are very painful (in my own opinion) also foot tattoos are considered to be harder to do than others so you need to research tattoo artists before you just go to someone random.

good luck!

Hey There,
My first tattoo is on the inside of my foot. It is the head of a viper at about ankel height, whose body goes down as far as the tattoo artist said was possible on my heel. I have other tattoos, and it was BY FAR the most painful. Also, when i was having it done, a biker came in who was tattooed head to foot. I was shaking and I asked him "did all your tats hurt as bad as this?" and he said "HELL NO! That spot is full of nerves and has no fat". So there ya go.

Just be prepared, mentally. Ineffective pain management is to grit your teeth and clench something really hard. What is far better is to practice meditation breathing for a week or two before you go. If you can focus, breathe, and relax the muscles in your body (instead of clenching them) you will fare far better.

Also, with recovery time, you wont be able to hike for about a week, at least. But then its fine once its all healed.

Sounds like a beautiful idea! make sure your artist can do FINE LINE work. Thicker lines are uglier. Look at their artwork, and then have them draw up your idea. If you like it, go for it.

GOOD LUCK!
