Also from Australia, and never heard of it.
There is a lot of mass produced Austrailian wine made for export that we never see in this country, and could account for Gryffin10941's disparaging remarks about Australian Riesling.
Good Australian Riesling is among the best in the world, and shouldn't be compared to the German Rieslings. It's a different style. Australian Riesling is fermented to dryness, and can be flinty dry (it is illegal in Australia to add sugar to wine before , during or after fermenting).

Grosset Polish Hill Riesling is regarded as the best dry Riesling in the world, and Leo Buring Rieslings are not far behind, and are more obtainable.

Riesling production in Australai is tiny (less than 10% of the total), but there IS a lot of cheap wine made for the export market. These styles, with resudual sugar, are easy to drink; but the drier styles can take some gettting used to.

I LOVE German Rieslings by the way

all ausrailian rieslings are a poor imitation of the real thing. If you want to try a really good riesling stick with german or if you go domestic, Washington State. They are so crisp and full of flavor they are almost effervescent.
