Last week, I took my children to a restaurant.
My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace.
As we bowed our heads he said,
"God is good, God is great.
Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more
if Mom gets us ice cream for dessert.
And Liberty and justice for all!
Amen!"

Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby,
I heard a woman remark,
"That's what's wrong with this country.
Kids today don't even know how to pray.
Asking God for ice cream!
Why, I never!"

Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me,
"Did I do it wrong?
Is God mad at me?"

As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific
job, and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly
gentleman approached the table.
He winked at my son and said,
"I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer."
"Really?" my son asked
"Cross my heart," the man replied. Then, in a theatrical whisper,

indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing),
"Too
bad she never asks God for ice cream.
A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes."

Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal.
My son stared at his for a moment, and then did something
I will remember the rest of my life.

He picked up his sundae and, without a word,
walked over and placed it in front of the woman.
With a big smile he told her,
"Here, this is for you.
Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes; and
my soul is good already."

That was cool, some people think the know all the answers sometimes or are so rude especially to children. I think that was a great prayer too.

I had the sad experience of why in colorado Springs a young girl said grace so loud it stopped conversation and everyone stopped and stared at her. When she had ended quite a long grace she smirked! The waitress approached and asked her to please respect other diners and in future say grace quietly. The girl smirked again and said "You are just unchristian"! The Waitress then replied "No dear I am the pastors wife and a far better Chrstian it seems you will ever be"! The girls behaviour is why whilst the wearing of the cross used to signify someone who believed in a loving god and acting like it sadly it now appears to symbolize someone who practices intolerance and persecution towards others!

I would have gone up to the woman and said what is wrong with this country is people judging other people especially small children making them cry.Have a blessed day. Smiled at her and turned around. My children have asked God for the sun to come out so they could go to the pool.

That's cute and a good prayer for a 6 year old. I teach 6 year olds at my church and that sounds about right. They're so funny sometimes.

A 6 year old is just coming to the understanding of who and what God is, if that lady was expecting some elaborate, formal prayer from a 6 year old, that's silly.

A table next to us once asked for a free meal because we prayed with joy before our meal.

It takes a LOT of idiots to make up America.

A cute story. There seems to be rude people everywhere. You 'rented' the space, so to speak, wherein you should do as you see fit, harming no one. Your son proved to be the wiser soul did he not?
I believe that I have never made a child cry in a restaurant, ever. Ice cream for me tonight. Thanks.

It cut that last part off I'd like to hear the rest. People can be such idiots. I'd say believing that you can get ice cream just for asking for it from God is exactly what this country needs.

That was a wonderful story. The innocense of children is what it is all about. I don't know the exact quote but didn't Jesus say something about being child like to be able to go to heaven? That was a wonderful prayer.

In regards to that first comment: the punchline is that this is the visible difference between Christians and unbelievers. Whose company would you prefer?
