Will my cats jump off the landing when we're not home?

Actually ther're kittens their 41/2 months. We got them 3 months ago and their outside cats but were going to put them inside for winter. We have a 2 story house and we have a landing and i was wondering if you have had a cat or dog while having a landing. Did they try to jump off? Did you have to put something their so they dont fall off/jump off. Their heads are small enough to go through.

Yes, they might try to jump off. You shouldn't put them outside if it is up high. Always put them outside at ground level.

You might try putting baby gates up against the railing, but they will probably try climbing this, too. Maybe there is some way you can keep them in only one section of the house? How high is this landing? If it is only a few feet, they may be fine, cats are amazing jumpers.

If they will fit through the railing block it with something. The problem isn't so much that they will try to jump off but that they will be playing and fall off. I had it happen with one, I got lucky she survived, but I wouldn't count on it happening again. Kittens don't pay that much attention to what they are doing or where they are going if they are playing and preoccupied. Once they are full grown you should be alright.

Yes, they most certainly will. They're dumb enough to think the ground is closer than it is, and will jump. It was the first thing my cat thought of to do when I let him out on the balcony the first time, and I had to grab him by his tail as he went over the edge (got him back without incident).

Keep them indoors.

Unfortunately cats are creatures of great logic, I think , so if they think they can make it they probly will. But if they dont do it while you are there then I dont think they will try when you are gone.
