One sink or two in a small bathroom?

Question

Preparing Grandma's house for sale. The ranch has 1 bathroom about 14 foot by 5 foot. Currently it has a sink with a 4 foot counter. Would the house be easier to sell if it had two sinks with "some" counter top space around them? The counter, with sinks, measures 4' by 2'. I'm thinking with a single bathroom the function of a second sink may help, but the sink area may be too small with two bowls.

The house is 40 years old.

I would not waste my money on another sink. Why do you need 2 sinks in a bathroom anyway????

You have room in a 4 ft area for two sinks and you will increase the value of the bathroom by adding them. Two people cannot function with only one sink in a one bath home. Our master of course has two but even our guest baths have two sinks. Even if it is a smaller area, fitting two in will be worthwhile. Make up your other limited space by planning better for storage, etc. A 14 ft. bath is not that small so you shoud be able to lay it out nicely.

No, I can imagine the size, but I think that a bathroom with one sink is fine. However, you can always measure the sink and get an idea on how two sinks will fit.

4 feet wide is not enough space, really, and buyers would wonder why the bathroom feels wierd. BTW, I love having 2 sinks but I've noticed that when I'm in a hotel room and don't have room for my curling iron, make-up, electric toothbrush, etc. on the counter, I feel frustrated.

The two sink thing is commonly seen in master baths where couples have to both prep for work at the same time. It's a bit of a luxury and in your case I don't think it'll make a difference.

Typically, double sink counters are from 5 - 6 feet. This is the smallest one that I found at 5.2':
