I have braces and today the dentist told me that i needed them taken out. they said it would probably be best for me to wait until I get my braces off. Which they said would probably be in maybe..6 months..at the longest. Only one of them is poking through. I'm terrified at the thought of getting put to sleep.I plan on telling them to do it while im awake. If I do this what should i expect? any advice and help would be great! thanks =)

I was awake for 7 tooth extractions (including my wisdom teeth) and it's really not that bad. If anything, it's just annoying to deal with the dentists hands in your mouth. With all the pain killing shots they will give you, it will not hurt. You will only feel pressure in the area. Don't worry about it. You can stay wide awake for the procedure and be fine.

I had mine taken out while I was awake. It was not that bad. The worst part was the shots. But that only lasts for a couple mins. If they are not impacted it will only take a couple mins to get them out. If they are you might hear the tooth crack or pop. but really not that bad. You will be fine!

theres nothing to worry about i had mine all cut out at the same visit. it does make you nervous not knowing what to expect. when they put you to sleep it only keeps you under for long enough for them to get it done. they have you to count backwards from 10 and your out by the time you reach 8 or 7. and when you come around you find your self continuing that count.(i did anyway) and couldn't believe they were already done. i wouldn't want to be awake because you would hear them busting those teeth to get them out. talk to your dentist and let them know of your concerns. good luck and best wishes.

You do not what to be awake for a wisdom tooth extraction!! If the tooth is impacted, they will cut it out. Sometimes the oral surgeon needs to break the tooth up just to get it out. Go for the anesthesia, you'll regret it if you don't.
