Any suggestions on jump starting my carrer??

Hi,
I have a degree in B.A., however l have been stcuk for the past 6 years working in hotel as a clerk. I have no experience in the field. Any suggestions and how l can move forward with my career. What type of job should l be looking for with this type of degree?

First, watch fight club. When Brad Pitt and Edward Norton drag the guy from out of the convenience store and threaten him, stop the movie.

Do you want to die as a hotel clerk. What do you really want to be.

The problem is that you did a B.A. Which makes you useless for any real job. Employers now want people who can do something.

Also you have been stuck in a job for 6 years. Which means you have little chance of getting out without action (or having Brad Pitt point a gun to your head...I gave him a call, he said he would love to help, but he is a little bit busy at the moment...sorry).

To overcome this you need to set of goal. Decide what you want to do.

Then study to acheive it. Maybe it means doing a masters in something, or perhaps doing career related work.

And you have lots of experience. You have work in a hotel for 6 years. What about a career in hotel management. You could go to work in many countries. 5 star hotels often employ managers from other countries (especially in the developing world). So do an MBA, or a Masters in Hotel Management.

If that is too expensive, then look at the more vocationally oriented jobs.

And what is your B.A. in. History, literature. If you did you B.A. in literature you can write. Which means jobs writing business documents, hotel newsletters.

Don't give up. Happiness is hard work.
