Wow, what a lot of poison to spew out of one person. Typical Christians are far nicer than you, and what you accuse them of you just justified in the name of communism. Sheesh. Talk about reverse logic. The law of moses had a provision to ensure the safety of family, parents, and children. I know of no incident where anyone literally had to go through with putting to death some Charlie Manson sort of kid they had. But here were the leaders of the faith in Christ's time getting around the commandment to honor your parents, essentially advocating the opposite and making legitimate candidates for the old law. They can't even see that what they do is evil in God's sight, and Jesus is pointing it out. He didn't say "go kill your kids." C'mon, read it in context and have an open mind. Perhaps Jesus Christ was a little sharper than you are, given that He is God incarnate and you are a sinful creation of his. Hey, that's another thing, he let a guy like you be born. What a terrible Jesus. I'm being facetious, obviously. The alternative to the salvation of Jesus, forgiveness with God, and eternal heaven as a reward, is pretty much the nasty stuff you just said about His followers.

This verse is in the midst of a passage (Mark 7:6-13).
It can't stand alone and be interpreted properly. In this passage, Jesus uses this particular law only to serve as an example, supporting His point as He criticizes religious leaders for taking God's law (the 10 Commandments) and twisting it to their convenience.
Some say, "Old Testament...New Testament....will you make up your minds?" I'm sorry if that is confusing to you.
Old Testament laws were given as a standard for people to live by. No one (other than Christ) has ever nor will ever be able to live without breaking one of them.
God knows that. He gave the law to us so that we could see what holiness truly is and to show us (mankind) that we need Him in our lives.
When Jesus said "It is finished" while hanging on the cross, He meant it. In a sense, the Old Testament laws are canceled out BECAUSE Jesus' life ministry and His law of love fulfills them.
In other words, before Christ (BC), Love was never a part of the religious leaders' interpretations of the Law. After Christ (AD), however, Love satisfies the law's demands.
When we put Love (Jesus) into the equation, we get this as the answer:
"Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honor your father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
That it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.
And, you fathers, provoke not your children to anger: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord."
Ephesians 6:1-4
Does that sound like we're commanded to put our children to death for disobedience?
Because of Jesus and the work He did on the cross (dying for ALL of mankind's sin), praise God...we're not held to the law and it's curses. Jesus paid the price.
That doesn't give us a license to break God's laws, however. And that's a lesson for another time!
If anyone reading this sees that something was left out or could be better explained, please do so.
Love,

Read the first part of the chapter. Jesus was quoting from the OT which is the "law" to the Pharisees. He was making a point. He did not say to kill someone if they dishonor their parents. Jesus also said if you hate someone you are committing murder with your heart. We are now under grace and not under the laws of Moses. We are saved by our faith in Jesus Christ, not by works less anyone should boast. Jesus was making a point saying the Pharisees were into tradition over scripture.
1 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus and 2 saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were "unclean," that is, unwashed. 3 (The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders. 4 When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.) 5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, "Why don't your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with 'unclean' hands?" 6 He replied, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: "'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 7 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.' 8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men." 9 And he said to them: "You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions! 10 For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and, 'Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.' 11 But you say that if a man says to his father or mother: 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is Corban' (that is, a gift devoted to God), 12 then you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that."

This is not a command for parents. This is for children to respect and honor their parents. If you read the whole chapter 7, you'll find that mostly such commandments they had forgotten, and they came with their own beliefs to erase slightly the old ones(which they should follow).
It's like nowadays, there are many children become rebellious. They refuse to obey their parents, and you will find they say "Oh, come on. You think I'm still a child for this kinda thing? I'm (whatever that damn age)!! You cannot control me forever!!" See..

Edit: Well, shut my mouth! It's PAUL that says it's the first command with a promise! Serves me right for not looking it up first! And here I was thinking Jesus didn't throw out as many death threats! Mea culpa!
Original post: Nice point. Actually, Jesus says that it's the first command with a promise, 'that it may go well with you all your days.' But that other part is in the OT too. It's a conundrum all right.
(Regardless of who said it, the Bible claims to be the "Word of God," so if it made it past the final edits, its supposed to hold up under scrutiny. Can't make excuses based on 'Moses said this, but Jesus said that and Paul said something else' as if that makes the conflicts go away. Sorry. Doesn't make the simplest tests of reason.)

I don't know what Bible you are reading, but Jesus says, "Moses said... let him die the death"
You probably haven't read the verses before, where Jesus is criticizing the Pharisees, and how he ends it,
Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered and many such things.(verse 13)
If you cannot discern a criticism from a commandment, you aren't very sharp.

A mother or father who raises a child to curse them has raised a rebellious child. That rebellious child will also curse God eventually and God will put him/her to death. God knows the heart of a rebellious child. It is very hard for a child to curse their parents. Children cover up their parents' faults. Children suffer under ungodly parents. Ungodly parents will be dealt with by God also, not just rebellious children.
Don't you know back then if a mother had a child that cursed her that she hid it and never told anyone. She grieved for that child, because God knew what the child had done.
In Exodus 20:12 we are told to honor our mother and our father so our days will be long upon the earth. It lengthens our lifetime to honor our parents. So evidently if we don't honor them it shortens our lifetime.
Repent and ask God to forgive you. Apologize to your parents for showing disrespect. Evidently, God does demand respect for your parents or He would not have made this so strong. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of Almighty God.

You are so wrong.
Yes, these words are from Jesus, but he was answering the Pharisees question about why he didn't follow tradition when he traveled with his disciples. (Mark 7:5) This had nothing to do with how to raise your children.
How many times do you have to hear "in context" before you listen?
